摘要: A method of non-invasively measuring venous oxygen saturation, comprising: applying a pressure transducer at a first site on a body, applying a drive signal to the external pressure transducer at a predetermined frequency, to cause a series of pulsations of a predetermined magnitude in the venous blood volume in the vicinity of said first site, applying an oximeter device at a second site on the body, measuring output signals received from said oximeter device, said output signals containing a component representative of the modulation of venous blood volume due to said pulsations, deriving a measure of venous oxygen saturation from the frequency response of said output signals.

摘要: An apparatus for multi-axis rotation and translation comprises a spherical body, a plurality of roller assemblies each engaging the outer surface of the spherical body, a plurality of actuators for driving said roller assemblies, a frame for supporting the plurality of roller assemblies and the plurality of actuators and translation means for translating the frame along each of three orthogonal axes. The actuators are selectively operated to drive the roller assemblies thereby imparting unlimited angular displacement to the spherical body and rotating the spherical body about any axis passing through its geometric center. The translation means may be operated to translate said spherical body along at least one of said three orthogonal axes. The apparatus is particularly applicable to use as a manipulator with six degrees of freedom (unlimited rotational displacement and translational displacement limited only by the boundaries of the workspace).

摘要: The invention relates to an electronic sensor for detecting skin, the sensor comprising processor, an EM source, a baffle, a first EM detector and a second EM detector, the sensor arranged such that the EM source is located on a first side of the baffle and the first and second EM detectors are arranged on a second opposite side of the baffle at first and second distances from the EM source respectively, the first distance being less than the second distance, the processor configured to cause the source to emit EM radiation and to receive first and second signals from the first and second EM detectors respectively, the signals being indicative of the intensity of EM radiation detected by the sensor, the processor being further configured to process the first and second signals and thereby generate a skin signal which is indicative of whether the sensor has detected skin.

摘要: A receiver (10) for receiving a wireless communication signal, such as a UWB signal, is operable in a first mode when the receiver is actively receiving a transmitted signal, and a second mode when the receiver is waiting to receive a transmitted signal. The receiver comprises an analogue-to-digital converter (20) for converting a received analogue signal into a digital signal. A receiver controller is adapted to control the operating resolution of the analogue to digital converter such that, in the first mode, the analogue-to-digital converter (20) operates at a first resolution, and, in the second mode, the analogue-to-digital converter (20) operates at a second resolution. The second resolution is lower than the first resolution, and preferably the second resolution is a 1-bit resolution.
