摘要: Systems and methods for characterizing films by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) are disclosed. For example, a system for characterizing a film may include an X-ray source for generating an X-ray beam having an energy below the k-edge of silicon. A sample holder may be included for positioning a sample in a pathway of the X-ray beam. A first detector may be included for collecting an XPS signal generated by bombarding the sample with the X-ray beam. A second detector may be included for collecting an X-ray fluorescence (XRF) signal generated by bombarding the sample with the X-ray beam. Monitoring/estimation of the primary X-ray flux at the analysis site may be provided by X-ray flux detectors near and at the analysis site. Both XRF and XPS signals may be normalized to the (estimated) primary X-ray flux to enable film thickness or dose measurement without the need to employ signal intensity ratios.

摘要: A development station in an electrostatographic imaging machine impedes the flow of carrier particles out of the development station as the developer moves from an upper to a lower magnetic roll. The development station includes a developer housing, for retaining a quantity of developer having semi-conductive carrier particles and toner particles, a first magnetic roll having a stationary core with at least one magnet and a sleeve having longitudinal grooves that rotates about the stationary core of the first magnetic roll to present developer on one side of the first magnetic roll to the photoreceptor, a second magnetic roll having a stationary core with at least one magnet and a sleeve having longitudinal grooves that rotates about the stationary core of the second magnetic roll to receive developer from the first magnetic roll and present developer on one side of the second magnetic roll to the photoreceptor, the second magnetic roll being vertically displaced from the first magnetic roll so that a gap exists between the first and the second magnetic rolls, and a magnetic seal located in the gap between the first and the second magnetic rolls to impede the outflow of carrier particles from the developer moving from the first magnetic roll to the second magnetic roll.

摘要: In a basic design of a developer unit for electrostatographic printing apparatus, an exit port is defined in the housing of the developer unit, for the passage of waste or surplus toner therethrough. An insert, defining a predetermined spillover barrier height and a predetermined exit angle, is associated with the exit port. Different types of inserts can be provided for operating the basic design of developer unit at different print output speeds, or with different compositions of developer material.

摘要: Detergent compositions comprising stable transparent, translucent or opaque hexagonal phase gels contain an anionic or cationic surfactant which is "secondary", i.e. its polar head group is either positioned non-terminally on a hydrophobic chain or carries two or more hydrophobic chains; optionally a further surfactant which is nonionic or non-"secondary"; a material (the "additive") capable of forcing the surfactant system into hexagonal phase; optionally builder, perfume, coloring or other adjuncts; and water. A solid such as abrasive or insoluble builder may be suspended in the gel. Preferred gels of the invention contain alkylbenzene sulphonate or dialkyl sulphosuccinate as the "secondary" surfactant and urea as the "additive". The compositions may be used inter alia for manual dishwashing.

摘要: A connector for medical tubing comprises two interengaging parts (1, 12). As one part is rotated relative to the other, screw-threads cause a tapered projection (13) to mate with a flared bore (6) to provide a fluid-tight seal. Further relative rotation causes the outer bevelled edge of the outer wall (16) of one of the parts to move further forward to sealingly engage the sloping wall (10) of the other part. The projection (13) and outer wall (16) are connected by a flexible membrane 19 to permit this further forward movement. The connector is particularly suited for use in continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis.

摘要: An improved apparatus for making books and other sheet material articles includes a main conveyor for transporting groups of signatures to a covering station. A cover conveyor transports covers to the covering station where they are sequentially applied to the groups of signatures in a known manner. A first cover feed assembly sequentially feeds covers to the cover conveyor. In the event of a malfunctioning of a first cover feed assembly, a second cover feed assembly is activated to feed a cover to the cover conveyor. A detector for detecting a malfunctioning of the first cover feed assembly is capable of detecting either a failure to feed a cover or the feeding of double covers. In the event that double covers are fed, the double covers are rejected and the second cover feed assembly is activated.

摘要: A fiber Bragg grating (FBG) based sensor is used as a strain sensing element to determine frame foot loading of a generator. Three FBGs may be used in tandem to form a basic Frame Foot Loading Module (FFL Module). Two modules are fixed on each vertical support gusset at the corner of the generator frame, with one module on the front of the gusset and a second module on the back of the gusset. Thus, each gusset may be instrumented with six FBG strain gauges or sensors. The gussets are chosen on each of the four corners of the generator. For two-pole generators the first three gussets at each corner may be used and, for four-pole generators the first four gussets may be used.
