Abstract: A glass article for a vehicle interior system (10). The glass article includes a glass sheet having first and second major surfaces with a minor surface connecting the first and second major surfaces. The glass sheet has a first side and a second side. A hinge is disposed on the second major surface of the glass sheet. The hinge divides the glass sheet between the first side and the second side. An encapsulating material is molded at least partially around the minor surface and at least partially over the second major surface. The second side of the glass sheet rotates about the hinge from a first configuration to a second configuration. In the first configuration, the first side forms a first angle with the second side, and in the second configuration, the first side forms a second angle, different from the first angle, with the second side.

Abstract: Methods and apparatuses for fabricating glass laminates where there is a substantial offset between edges of glass plies of the laminates are described herein. The method includes placing an entirety of the periphery of a stack of the glass plies in a vacuum ring comprising a vacuum channel with a depth that circumferentially varies. The vacuum ring includes at least a first portion where the vacuum channel has a first depth and a second portion where the vacuum channel has a second depth that is at least two times greater than the first depth to accommodate edge offsets. Negative pressure can be applied to a space between the plies via the vacuum ring to deair the space. A suitable furnace can be used to bond the plies together and form a laminate having a desired shape.

Abstract: A display assembly for an automotive interior includes a cover substrate comprising a first major surface and a second major surface opposite the first major surface; and a support structure. The support structure comprises a plurality of frame portions adhered to separate regions of the second major surface via an adhesive layer to retain the cover substrate in a curved configuration. A shear joint couples two of the plurality of frame portions to one another, the shear joint being configured to maintain a mechanical connection between the two frame portions despite bending stresses being present in the cover substrate, while permitting the two frame portions to move relative to one another along at least a first axis. A gap in the adhesive layer is disposed proximate to the shear joint, the gap decoupling thermally-induced strain distributions of different segments of the adhesive layer from one another via the shear joint.

Abstract: A bendable glass article having a bendable display unit is disclosed. The glass article includes a glass sheet including a first major surface and a second major surface opposite to the first major surface. A hinge mechanism is disposed on the second major surface of the glass sheet. The hinge mechanism divides the glass sheet into a first side and a second side. A bendable display unit is bonded to the second major surface of the glass sheet and disposed between the glass sheet and the hinge mechanism. An adhesive material is disposed on the second major surface of the glass sheet around the display. The first side is bendable about the hinge mechanism relative to the second side, and the bendable display unit is hermetically sealed within the adhesive material.
