A socket and heat sink unit includes a socket portion configured to releasably couple to a removable LED light module. The unit also includes a heat sink portion attached to the socket portion and extending about a central axis. The heat sink portion comprises a plurality of fins, as well as one or more apertures configured to receive fasteners therein to fix the unit to a light fixture housing. The socket and heat sink portions are monolithic.

A socket and heat sink unit for use with a removable LED light module includes separate socket and heat sink portions that are coupleable to each other. The socket can releasably couple to a removable LED light module. The heat sink can couple to the socket and extends about a central axis. The heat sink includes a plurality of fin members that extend outward from a central core portion. At least two adjacent fin members define a channel therebetween at the junction of the fin members to the central core portion. The channel can receive a fastener therein to couple the socket to the heat sink. An extrusion process can be used to manufacture the heat sink portion, and to form one or more fastener holes in the heat sink portion sized to receive one or more fasteners to fasten the heat sink portion to the socket portion.

A removable LED light module for use in a lighting assembly includes an LED lighting element and one or more resilient members to maintain a compression force between the LED light module and a socket and/or heat dissipating member or thermally conductive housing to provide effective heat transfer from the LED to the heat dissipating member or thermally conductive housing. One or more electrical contact members of the LED light module is configured to releasably contact one or more electrical contact elements of a socket of the lighting assembly when the LED light module is coupled to the socket to establish an electrical connection between the LED light module and the socket, said electrical contact elements positioned behind openings in a surface of the socket to partially obstruct access to said electrical contact elements.

A lighting assembly that has a light fixture and an LED light module is provided. One or more resilient members generate a compression force when the LED light module is removably coupled to the light fixture to thereby exert a generally axial force on the LED light module to resiliently maintain the LED light module in resilient contact with the light fixture or socket of the light fixture to thereby resiliently couple the LED light module to the light fixture or socket of the light fixture. One or both of the LED light module and light fixture have one or more engaging members that extend radially from a circumferential surface thereof, and one or both of the LED light module and the light fixture have one or more slots configured to removably receive the one or more engaging members therein when coupling the LED light module to the light fixture.
