    摘要: A face seal includes an annular carbon stator having a flat surface in rubbing contact with the flat surface of a composite annular rotor. The annular rotor has a head portion and a base portion. Embedded in the head portion are high thermal conductivity graphite fibers that are oriented to maximize heat dissipation. Incorporation of graphite fibers makes the rotor resistant to time-dependent creep deformation, thus preserving sealing integrity.

    摘要: A method of bonding metallic wires, such as strain gages, thermocouples, etc., directly onto ceramic components, such as silicon nitride or silicon carbide turbine parts, by means of a refractory cement formed from a mixture of water, sodium silicate, and a ceramic powder, preferably of a composition similar to the underlying ceramic component. Several thin layers of the mixture are applied and cured so as to provide a strong bond having good thermal shock resistance for testing at typical gas turbine operating temperatures, such as 2500.degree. F. or above.

    摘要: For use in a compressor unit of gas turbine engine, a blade having a tip portion. An abrasive portion is formed on the tip portion with the abrasive portion comprising a dispersion of discrete particles of cubic boron nitride disposed on the tip portion. A shroud is coated with a porous ceramic abradable material based on preferably 8% yttria-stabilized zirconia. The abrasive portion of the tip portion contacts the abradable material. In the preferred embodiment, the abradable material is treated with boron nitride composited polyester that is burned out of the material via thermal exposure to thereby improve porosity within the abradable material.

    摘要: A stator assembly of a gas turbine engine includes first and second annular metal stator rims. The stator rims, positioned in parallel, include a plurality of ceramic blades therebetween, each ceramic blade having a rounded nose and a flattened and tapered tail. Each ceramic blade further includes an opening for receiving a mounting pin. The mounting pin mounts between the first and second annular stator rims, clamping and containing the ceramic airfoil therebetween in a position relative to an axis of the turbine engine.
