Abstract:
A multipoint hub or junction unit has a main channel connected to a control station of a selective calling line and a plurality of branch lines, certain of the branch lines connected to downstream line stations and one branch line connected to a main channel of a downstream multipoint junction unit whose branches are connected to other line stations. Normally, downstream data signals from the control station are split by the hub and broadcast to all the branches, the signals to the downstream hub being split again. Upstream transmission on each branch is combined and propagates to the main line. The multipoint junction unit normally blocks upstream supervisory signals. When branch lines are to be tested, signaling equipment is connected into the main line and signals the hub to block all its branches, to select blocked branches to be tested and to unblock the selected branches to permit passage of upstream and downstream data and supervisory signals.
Abstract:
A symmetrical junction unit interconnects a plurality of branch lines which extend to line loops of data stations. Normally, data signals on any branch from the data station connected thereto are broadcast by the junction unit to all other branches and supervisory control signals are blocked. When it is desired to test a branch line, signaling equipment connected to one designated branch signals the junction unit to select the desired branch. The junction unit, in response thereto, permits the interchange of both data and control signals between the one designated branch and the selected branch and blocks all the unselected branches. In one embodiment, branch lines are arranged to accommodate half-duplex signaling during the normal mode and full-duplex signaling during testing.
Abstract:
A synchronous multipoint data network is formed by symmetrical junction units. Each junction unit provides signal paths that interconnect four two-way branch lines which extend to station line loops or are connected to branch lines of other junction units. Data signals from any branch are broadcast by the junction unit to all other branches. If data signals are simultaneously received from two branches, an exclusive two-way connection is formed therebetween. Other branches may then broadcast data signals to each other or form a second exclusive two-way connection. The junction unit also generates ''''idle'''' control words and sends them to branches when they are not receiving data signals.
