Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for coding image data adaptively at different levels of downscaling. Such techniques may involve partitioning input data into pixel blocks for coding and performing content analysis on the pixel blocks. The pixel blocks may be input to block coders that operate at different pixel block sizes, which may code the pixel blocks input to them at their respective sizes. Except when a block coder operates at the partitioning size, block coders that operate at different pixel block sizes may perform downscaling of the pixel blocks to match their size with the block coders' respective coding size. A block decoder may invert the coding operations performed by the block coders, decoding coded image data at respective pixel block sizes, then upscaling decoded image data obtained therefrom to a common pixel block size. Image reconstruction may synthesize a resultant image from the decode pixel block data output by the decoders. Quality enhancements may be added by neural network processing systems that have been trained to other segmented images.

Abstract: A method that uses a microphone array for spatially selective sound pickup during an audio-video recording session is described. An audio signal for the audio-video recording session is generated using a beamforming process from the microphone array in accordance with a sound pickup directivity pattern. Ambient sound pressure level of the audio-video recording session is monitored while generating the audio signal. The sound pickup directivity pattern of the beamforming process is automatically adjusted during the audio-video recording session as a function of the monitored ambient sound pressure level. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.

Abstract: Various embodiments disclosed herein include mechanical iris assemblies, as well as camera modules and devices that incorporate these mechanical iris assemblies. The mechanical iris assemblies described herein include a stator piece, a rotor piece, a set of blade elements, and an actuator arrangement. The actuator arrangement may include a voice coil actuator having at least one magnet carried by the stator piece and at least one coil carried by the rotor piece. The mechanical iris assembly includes a set of springs configured to carry current between the stator piece and the rotor piece to power the coil or coils carried by the rotor piece.
