    Abstract: A composite is provided to include an elastomer substrate comprising methyl groups. The composite may also include a layer of glass comprising SiO2 formed over the elastomer substrate. A method of fabricating the composite is provided. The method may include diffusing an ozone-rich gas into the substrate of an elastomer substrate comprising methyl groups. The method may also include exposing the elastomer substrate to UV radiation for a period of time. The method may further include converting a surface portion of the elastomer substrate into a layer of glass formed over the elastomer substrate.

    Abstract: A head-mounted device may have a head-mounted support structure. Rear-facing displays may present images to eye boxes at the rear of the head-mounted support structure. A forward-facing publicly viewable display may be supported on a front side of the head-mounted support structure facing away from the rear-facing displays. The forward-facing display may have pixels that form an active area in which images are displayed and may have a ring-shaped inactive border area that surrounds the pixels. A cover layer may cover the forward-facing display and other optical components. The cover layer may have laminates on front and rear surfaces. To protect an edge surface of the cover layer, encapsulation material may be provided on the edge surface or may otherwise separate the edge surface from an exterior of the device.

A housing may be used to form an enclosure for the components. Keyboard keys, trim structures, and/or other device structures such as housing structures may be provided with wear-resistant coatings. For example, a keyboard key may have a glyph such as an alphanumeric character formed from patterned layers of ink. To prevent wear to the key and glyph, the glyph may be coated with a wear-resistant coating. The wear-resistant coating may be formed from a polymer with embedded mineral particles such as aluminosilicate particles.
