Abstract: Methods and apparatus for open loop startup of a three-phase motor that reduces acoustic noise. During rotor alignment of the motor, there is a maximum level for a phase current to the motor. After the rotor alignment, open loop motor startup is performed during which the phase current has a first slope. At a selected time, such as when a frequency of the phase current reaches a first threshold, the phase current transitions to a second slope.

Abstract: A method comprising: receiving a first current measurement that is taken at a first predetermined time instant; receiving a second current measurement that is taken at a second predetermined time instant; classifying the first current measurement as corresponding to one of a plurality of electrical signals, the first current measurement being classified based, at least in part, on a duty cycle pattern of the plurality of electrical signals; classifying the second current measurement as corresponding to another one of the plurality of electrical signals, the second current measurement being classified based, at least in part, on the duty cycle pattern of the plurality of electrical signals; and adjusting a duty cycle of at least one of the electrical signals based on the first current measurement, the classification of the first current measurement, the second current measurement, and the classification of the second current measurement.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for controlling a three-phase electric motor by determining a duration of current measurement windows within a first pulse width modulation period for measuring motor current using a single shunt coupled to the motor. A duration of a first one of the current measurement windows can be adjusted by a time delta value to meet a minimum time to measure the motor current. A next PWM period can include compensation for the time delta value. In embodiments window adjustments are made by modifying the high state of a middle phase signal for phase signals to switches that energize the motor.
