Abstract: An example apparatus may include an optical splitter apparatus that includes a dual mode fiber having a single mode fiber core embedded in a multi-mode fiber core, a plurality of single mode fibers, and a funnel waveguide coupling the dual mode fiber to the single mode fibers. The optical splitter apparatus may be for use in a passive optical network. The single mode fiber core may be for transmitting downstream optical signals, where the funnel waveguide distributes the downstream optical signals to the single mode fibers. In addition, the single mode fibers may transmit upstream optical signals, and the funnel waveguide may direct the upstream optical signals into the multi-mode fiber core. The optical splitter apparatus may have an asymmetric insertion loss ratio between the downstream optical signals received via the single mode fiber core and the upstream optical signals received via the single mode fibers.

Abstract: Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, a network communication device that includes a backhaul link circuit and a Wi-Fi access point to provide broadband services to a service provider's broadband customers and to provide mobility services to the service provider's mobility customers. This network communication device is installed outside of a dwelling unit in order to simplify the installation procedure and avoid property disruption. An extender device registered to a broadband customer user account may associate to the access point for seamless service. User equipment (UE) of the service provider's mobility customers may associate to the access point to receive Wi-Fi roaming services. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Abstract: A speed tier based pricing scheme is utilized to increase average revenue per user (ARPU). To offer a speed tier based pricing scheme, the radio environment at a location of the UE can be analyzed to determine the speed tiers that can be offered to the user. In one aspect, an outer-loop scheduler can be utilized to allocate radio bearers to the UE based on a target data throughout associated with a user-selected speed tier. The priority of the non-guaranteed bit rate (GBR) bearers of the UE can be dynamically adjusted to track the target data throughput. In another aspect, a throttling function can be implemented to limit the data throughput of the UE to the target data throughput.
