Abstract: A wireless device is configured to select a beam and/or an antenna based on detection a detected position and/or orientation of the device relative to a remote device. The device obtains motion data indicating a change in position or orientation of the wireless device. The device determines its pose relative to the remote device. The device accesses a coverage map that associates, for each potential pose for the device with respect to the remote device: an antenna for communicating with the remote device and/or a beam for communicating with the remote device. The device selects a particular antenna and/or a particular beam for communicating with the remote device; and causes transmission or reception of data to or from the remote device by the particular antenna and/or the particular beam.

Abstract: In an example method, a user equipment (UE) of a wireless network determines data for transmission between the UE and a base station (BS) of the wireless network; determines a context of the transmission of the data between the UE and the BS; selects, based on the context, one or more antenna elements of an antenna array of the UE; and forms one or more wireless beams using the one or more selected antenna elements. Further, the UE (i) transmits at least a first portion of the data to the BS using the one or more wireless beams, and/or (ii) receives at least a second portion of the data from the BS using the one or more wireless beams.

Abstract: A user equipment (UE) passively determines the presence of a cellular network bottleneck in a downlink channel and may take appropriate actions to mitigate the bottleneck. The UE may analyze the transport block size (TBS) of slots of received downlink traffic and assign states the to various slots based on this analysis. Based on these assigned states, the UE may identify a burst of network traffic from network traffic received from the cellular network, and the UE may also determine the burst duration as well as a busy estimation. The UE may determine that the cellular network is experiencing a bottleneck based at least in part on the burst duration and the busy estimation.

Abstract: Apparatuses, systems, and methods for high data mode operation in cellular networks. A UE may determine, for an interface to a high-speed cellular network, a categorization from a plurality of categorizations, determine availability of the high-speed cellular network, and select, based at least in part on the categorization and availability of the high-speed cellular network, the interface for a data connection to the high-speed cellular network. The categorization may be one of expensive or not expensive and/or one of a first level associated with a higher compression codec rate or a second level associated with a lower compression codec rate. The UE may receive, from one of the a low-speed cellular network or the high-speed cellular network, carrier plan information for a cellular data service carrier and analyze the carrier plan information to determine desirability of a switch, e.g., from the low-speed cellular network to the high-speed cellular network.

Abstract: Techniques for a link budget limited UE to improve communications performance with cellular networks are disclosed. The UE may be associated with subscriptions to multiple carriers and may connect to a cell of a first carrier. The UE may detect that received signal strength from the cell is below a threshold and search for a new cell that may be of a different carrier. The UE may store a PLMN eSIM priority look up table and the search may be based on the look up table. Additionally, the UE may track received signal strength and geographic location in a first data structure that the UE may send to a server. The UE may receive a second data structure from the server that includes received signal strength at geographic locations compiled from a plurality of UEs, including the UE. The UE may also use the second data structure in searches for a new cell.

Abstract: Apparatuses, systems, and methods for user equipment (UE) devices to perform a postponement of a data service request are described. A UE may detect a data service request failure during cell reselection and postpone a resend of the data service request based on a status of the cell reselection. The status may be an indication that the UE is attempting to camp on a cell or that the UE is monitoring one or more metrics associated with cell reselection. To postpone the data service request, the UE may postpone the data service request for a specified period of time or until the cell reselection is complete. The status may be monitored on a first layer of a protocol stack and the data service request may generated by a second layer of the protocol stack. The postponement may be for a fixed or variable time period.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for minimizing scheduling collisions between networks. In one embodiment, the networks are substantially unsynchronized, and during hybrid network operation (e.g., LTE and CDMA 1X operation), a mobile device can place CDMA 1X voice calls while registered with the LTE network. However, since the LTE and CDMA 1X networks are not coordinated, the mobile device will experience scheduling collisions. In one variant, the LTE network accounts for predictable behaviors (such as CDMA 1X paging), and schedules low priority tasks during likely time interval conflicts. Consequently, even though the mobile device must tune away from the LTE network to check CDMA 1X pages, overall LTE network performance is minimally affected.
