摘要： Disclosed is a scanning method and apparatus for scanning documents in a multifunctional machine. A scanning sensor module moves along the main scanning axis of the apparatus in either a first direction or a second direction opposite the first direction along the same scan line. The scanning sensor module moves to any line in a sub scanning direction and scans the line. Then, the scanning sensor module moves to a second position and re-scans the line. Since the scanning along the main scanning axis is performed at least twice, the total amount of data collected is increased, thus increasing the resolution of the image that is recorded along the main scanning axis.

Accordingly, since the errors for decline and the errors for distance between the bands can be corrected by using a computing program, there is an advantage in that correcting the errors of the pattern data is very simple. A further advantage is in that even if the scanner is subjected to an impact from its exterior, correcting the errors for decline and the errors for distance between the bands can be promptly performed.

This reduces the errors generated by using an excessive amount of reduction on received facsimile images. The device uses a rotary document width sensor to increase the degree of accuracy with which the width of a document can be sensed. This also reduces the magnitude of excessive reduction that occurs when a document is improperly loaded and causes a width to be detected that is slightly larger than the actual width.
