摘要: A method for driving a plasma display panel is provided in which wasteful power consumption is reduced and light emission efficiency is improved when the number of cells to be lighted is relatively small. The method includes classifying a display ratio into plural group ranges, selecting a suitable display pulse waveform for each group range, detecting the display ratio of an object to be displayed in a real display, and plural types of display pulses having different waveforms are used differently in accordance with the result of the detection. The display ratio means a ratio of the number of cells to be lighted to the number of cells of the screen.

Each cell has at least three electrodes including a pair of main electrodes and on every line of the matrix and an address electrode on every column of the matrix. The method includes conducting an address preparation period including applying a first charge adjusting voltage, monotonously rising or falling, to a gap between the main electrodes. The method also includes applying a charge adjusting voltage, monotonously rising or falling, to a gap between a scan electrode and the address electrode.

The method includes applying a first pulse and a second pulse to the second electrode in an address preparation period. The method also includes applying a scan pulse to the second pulse to the second electrode in an address period. The method includes the first pulse having a voltage changing with time in a positive direction and the second pulse having a voltage changing with time in a negative direction and the scan pulse having a negative voltage which is lower than the attained voltage of the second pulse.

摘要: A driving method for a plasma display panel is disclosed in which sustain pulses are alternately applied to a pair of display electrodes of plural discharge cells provided in the plasma display panel to generate a sustain discharge, thereby causing an image to be displayed on the plasma display panel. The sustain pulses include a two-crests discharge voltage waveform having two maximum values in which discharges are generated twice in a half cycle. The driving method includes consecutively applying the two-crests discharge voltage waveforms to the pair of display electrodes; and making a time until the second one of the maximum values of the subsequently applied two-crests discharge voltage waveform is clamped longer than a time until the second one of the maximum values of the initially applied two-crests discharge voltage waveform is clamped.
