    摘要: For a given shutter size, the effective illumination or light transmission period is increased by one half that of the angles subtended by the aperture. This increase is accomplished by providing, in addition to a first shutter having an opaque section in the case of a camera of at least 180.degree., a second shutter having an opaque section of an angle equal to that subtended by the aperture. The second shutter is coaxially mounted with the first shutter and caused to rotate at twice the speed of the first shutter. By initially aligning the leading edges of the shutters with the start of the aperture, the aperture is effectively covered and uncovered in half the time which would normally be required by using a single shutter providing the same film transport period alone. As a consequence, the period of illumination is increased by the referred to one-half of the angle subtended by the aperture. This value becomes significant if the shutter diameter is small relative to the aperture size since the subtended angle becomes larger.

    摘要: The film gate and registration system is used for motion picture film that is intermittently transported through a gate from one frame to the next. The arrangement is applicable to both motion picture cameras and projectors. A gate is provided with an aperture having solid marginal edge areas. Spaced pressure pads are arranged to be moved into and out of engagement with a film passing through the film gate. The pads press against the marginal edges of the film when the frame is in its dwell period in the gate either for exposure or projection. When the film is to be transported to the next frame, the pressure pads are withdrawn from the marginal edges and the film is lifted away from the aperture plane. In the preferred embodiment, registration indexing pins closely cooperate with the pressure pads in a special fashion to provide unusually precise positioning of each successive film frame at the end of the transport time.

    摘要: An apparatus for intermittently moving film through a film gate for purposes of either exposure or projection particularly suitable for high-speed motion picture cameras, utilizes first and second roller arrangements on either side of the film gate in place of the conventional film loops. These rollers are caused to oscillate sinusoidally in such a manner as to increase the path length of film moving into the film gate and simultaneously decrease the path length of film leaving the film gate and thence reverse this motion to decrease the path length of film fed into the film gate and simultaneously increase the path length film leaving the film gate. With this arrangement the film may be payed out and taken up at constant speed while intermittent movement of film in the gate takes place and further the film is always captured. By properly adjusting the oscillation speed of the rollers relative to the payout and takeup constant speed, a portion of the film in the gate is stationary during a period when the path length of film into the film gate is increasing and the path length of film from the film gate is decreasing, and moving at a speed substantially twice the constant payout and takeup speed during another period when the path length of film into the film gate is decreasing and the path length of film from the film gate is increasing. Pulldown claw arrangements are thus eliminated as well as free-type storage loops heretofore used and the instability problems associated with such loops when the camera or projector is operating at high speed.

    摘要: An improved film transport assembly is provided for intermittently advancing film, without pulldown claws or similar mechanisms for engaging film perforations to obtain intermittent transport, with extended dwell period past the film gate of a camera or projector, particularly such as a motion picture camera or projector adapted for high speed film transport or for handling relatively large film formats. The transport assembly includes film supply and takeup sprockets for constant velocity film transport respectively to and from the film gate, with the film passing over a primary roller and a compensation roller interposed between each sprocket and the film gate. The pairs of primary rollers and compensation rollers are displaced generally sinusoidally and at different cyclic rates to increase the film path length between the supply sprocket and gate while decreasing the film path length between the takeup sprocket and gate, and vice versa, resulting in a net film velocity of zero at the gate for a dwell period of up to 180 degrees, followed by generally sinusoidal transport of the film through a transport period of about 180 degrees to register the next film frame with the gate. Limited phase shift between the cyclic motions of the primary and compensation rollers will permit use of relatively simple sinusoidal displacement functions for improved balancing without film binding. Mechanisms are also disclosed for adjusting film position, film tension, and for accommodating films of different perforation pitch.
