Abstract: Provided herein are methods of making a spatially-barcoded microarray, the method comprising the steps of: providing distinguishable mini-barcoded beads, wherein the distinguishable mini-barcoded beads comprise a plurality of distinct bead populations, with each bead member of a distinct population having an identical mini-barcode sequence; simultaneously delivering the plurality of distinguishable barcoded beads to a plurality of wells of a microarray, wherein a single bead is provided to each well; imaging the plurality of wells to identify the population type of each bead in each of the plurality of wells and thereby identify the mini-barcode in each well; removing the mini-barcodes from the beads and connecting the mini-barcode or a polymerase product of the mini-barcode to a surface of the well in which the bead is located; and removing the beads from the wells.

Abstract: A radiological clip for locating marked tissue within a diagnostic ultrasound image may transmit an ultrasound identification (USID) signal within a bandwidth of ultrasound imaging pulses. A same ultrasound imaging array that receives the ultrasound imaging pulses may also receive the USID signal. An ultrasound imaging apparatus may generate an ultrasound image of the tissue that indicates a location and ID of the radiological clip based on the ultrasound imaging pulses and the USID signal received from the radiological clip within the imaging field. The radiological clip may generate an activation signal in response to receiving an ultrasound imaging pulse, generate an identification signal responsive to the activation signal, and transmit a USID signal based on the identification signal. The USID signal may include encoded signals corresponding to different bits within a multiple-bit identification tag to uniquely identify the radiological clip within a diagnostic image.

Abstract: The present invention provides compositions and methods for transferring phospholipids and other molecules between the leaflets of a cell membrane. The compositions comprise at least one nucleic acid or compound having a hydrophilic region, where the composition is able to form a nanostructure that forms a toroidal pore in a lipid membrane. The nucleic acid or hydrophilic region-containing compound further contains an attached molecule capable of inserting the nanostructure into the lipid membrane. The invention also provides methods for scrambling lipids and other molecules in a cell membrane, which can be used to alter the function of a selected cell or to facilitate the death of the cell. The scrambling activity of synthetic scramblases described herein outperforms previously known enzymatically active DNA nanostructures and naturally occurring scramblases, in some cases by several orders of magnitude.
