    摘要: Disclosed is an optical modulator which substantially lowers loss and has little attenuation in the intensity of an optical signal after modulation. The optical modulator includes a 1×2 RZ pulse carver wherein optical phase shifters used for modulation are arranged along two arm waveguides held between a 1×2 coupler and a 2×2 coupler, two interferometric modulators connected respectively to two output ports of the 2×2 coupler, and a 2×1 coupler for combining the outputs of the interferometric modulators.

    摘要: A waveguide type optical switch that can reduce the number of intersections in a matrix optical switch having the configuration of connecting unit optical switches and optical combining devices or optical branching devices to have a connecting function from “multiple inputs to one output” to “one input to multiple outputs”. To reduce the number of intersections in an entire matrix optical switch, an optical combining device of M inputs and one output is divided into (M−1) pieces of unit optical combining elements each having two inputs and one output, which are arranged immediately after (N−1) pieces of respective output ports excluding one piece of the output port closer to the input in the matrix optical switch out of N pieces of the output ports in the optical switch of one input and N outputs.

A photocurrent monitoring circuit, which performs monitoring by converting photocurrents output from a plurality of photodiodes (PD1 to PDn) into voltage, includes: a multiplexer circuit (MUX) for selecting one of input terminals to establish a connection of the selected input terminal to an output terminal, wherein the photodiodes (PD1 to PDn) are respectively connected to the input terminals; and an amplifier (LA) for converting a photocurrent which flows from a selected photodiode via the multiplexer circuit (MUX) into a voltage, and for outputting the voltage.

    摘要: By reducing the number of PD arrays, and by simplifying the configuration of an optical power monitor in a WDM system, a miniaturized, cost reduced optical signal monitoring apparatus, optical system or optical signal monitoring method is provided. An optical power monitor 1 has an optical switch 30 having four input ports 31, a DMUX 2 having 48 output ports, and six CSP type PD array modules 50 each including an 8-channel PD array. The output port 32 of the optical switch 30 having four switchable input ports 31 is optically connected to the input port 21 of the AWG 20. The 48 output ports 22 of the AWG 20 are each optically connected to photosensitive surfaces 53 of the individual PDs included in the CSP type PD array modules 50. The CSP type PD array modules 50 are mounted on the end face of the AWG 20.

The distribution part forms any or a combination of a variable 1×M demultiplexer/brancher, a combination of one or more fixed ILFs and an optical switch and a combination of a plurality of variable optical couplers and an optical switch; the optical modulator array includes a plurality of optical modulators; the aggregation part includes a structure of any or a combination of one or more variable optical couplers, a combination of a plurality of variable attenuators, an M×1 variable coupler, a variable M×1 demultiplexer/brancher and a combination of one or more fixed ILFs and an optical switch.
