摘要: Polymeric particles comprising a polymeric matrix that has been formed from a blend of monomers comprising a first monomer which is an ethylenically unsaturated ionic monomer and a second monomer which is an ethylenically unsaturated hydrophobic monomer which is capable of forming a homopolymer of glass transition temperature in excess of 50° C., wherein secondary particles are distributed throughout the matrix, in which the secondary particles comprise a hydrophobic polymer that has been formed from an ethylenically unsaturated hydrophobic monomer which is capable of forming a homopolymer of glass transition temperature in excess of 50° C. and optionally other monomers, which hydrophobic polymer is different from the polymeric matrix. Also claimed is a process for preparing particles. The particles have improved shatter resistance. Preferably the polymeric particles comprise an active ingredient, especially a colorant. Such particles combine improved shatter resistance with the ability to retain the active ingredient. The particles of the invention can be used in a variety of industrial applications, for instance in the manufacture of inks, paper and cosmetics.

摘要: Carboxylic acid ester derivatives of zosteric acid are effective in preventing biofouling and are readily formulated into coatings or films. Coating or film compositions of the esters, and methods for their application, are provided which reduce the dissolution of the esters into water or loss to the environment. The Zosteric acid esters of the invention appear to function by preventing adhesion of an organism to a surface rather than by acute toxic activity rendering said compositions more environmentally acceptable.

摘要: Polyglycerol anti-microbial agents and compositions are provided. The agents are effective against a variety of pathogens including fungi, Gram positive bacteria and Gram negative bacteria yet are expected to have low human toxicity due in part to their polymeric nature. Applications for the polyglycerol anti-microbial agents and compositions include those involving human and plant contact, such as cosmetics, hair care products, textiles and plant protections, as well as in applications with much less human contact, such as plastics, coatings, wood, paper and other materials of construction.

The novel compounds are effective as antimicrobials.

摘要: Anti-microbial compositions are provided which comprise as an antimicrobial agent at least one compound derived from a select polyol containing at least 3 hydroxy groups wherein one or more, and often two or more, of the hydroxyls are derivitized to form certain ether, ester, carbonate or carbamate groups which groups may bear additional functionality. Novel antimicrobial compounds of this class are also provided. The compositions are effective against a variety of pathogens including fungi, Gram positive bacteria and Gram negative bacteria and are expected to have low human toxicity. Applications for the polyglycerol anti-microbial agents and compositions include those involving human and plant contact, such as cosmetics, hair care products, textiles and plant protections, as well as in applications with much less human contact, such as plastics, coatings, wood, paper and other materials of construction.
