摘要: A system and method for detecting abnormal situations associated with a stirred vessel in a process plant receives statistical data associated with a pressure within a stirred vessel. A pressure signal associated with the pressure in the vessel is filtered by a digital filter to isolate a frequency component corresponding to pressure changes caused by the movement of a blade of an agitator through a fluid. For example, a pressure sensor device disposed at least partially within the stirred vessel may generate the statistical data based on a pressure signal. The statistical data is analyzed to detect whether one or more abnormal situations associated with an agitator of the stirred vessel exist. For example, the statistical data may be analyzed to detect whether the agitator is broken/unbalanced, corroded, missing a blade or multiple blades, etc. If an abnormal situation is detected, an indicator of the abnormal situation may be generated.

摘要: A device for testing a sample of foam material and a method for making such a test include compressing the sample repetitively by means of a dropped weight. The weight includes a plunger which moves vertically in a sliding bearing arrangement. The plunger is raised by a solenoid and allowed to drop so as to compress the sample only by a predetermined percentage of its original diameter. The force applied to the sample is monitored during this compression operation and the ratios of forces between the initial force measurement and the force measurement made during subsequent drops provides a quantitative indication of the weakness in the foam cell structure.

摘要: By supplying gaseous nitrogen throughout a discrete aliquot of a preferably pelletized mixture of aluminum oxide, carbon and, optionally, calcium oxide during the carbothermal reduction thereof to aluminum nitride and continuously removing gaseous reaction products therefrom, a high quality aluminum nitride is produced. One means of supplying gaseous nitrogen to the mixture of solid reactants is a perforated tray having a hollowed-out bottom. Gaseous nitrogen supplied to the hollowed-out portion flows through the perforations and throughout solid reactants contained in the tray. The carbon may be alternatively supplied, in whole or in part, as a gaseous reactant.

摘要: A process fluid flow system is provided having an input, an output, and a plurality of fluid circuits disposed between the input and output. At least one valve is disposed to selectably cause process fluid to flow through either a first circuit of the plurality of circuits, or a second circuit of the plurality of circuits. Process fluid flows through the first circuit during normal production, and through the second circuit during process fluid sequestration. A process fluid flow measurement device is operably interposed between the input and output and configured to measure total flow through the system. A separator is disposed in the second circuit and is arranged to allow the process fluid to separate gravitationally over time into immiscible components of the process fluid, the separator having a known internal volume. A guided wave radar level measurement device is preferably disposed to measure heights of interfaces within the separator. A controller is coupled to at least one valve, the process fluid flow measurement system, and the guided wave radar level measurement device. The controller is configured to combine total process fluid flow information from the process fluid flow measurement device with measured height information from the guided wave level measurement device to provide fractional flow rates for at least one immiscible component of the process fluid.

摘要: The invention is a device and method for cooling a high temperature furnace. A typical high temperature furnace will include a hot zone that is insulated with carbon-based materials, such as lamp-black. The cooling device is a probe consisting of two elongate tubular members. The smaller diameter member fits lengthwise inside the larger member, such that an annulus is defined within the probe. A tapered metal tip at the lower end of the probe is positioned above a frangible disk, and the disk fits over a guide tube that extends into the insulation section. In operation, the probe is shoved downwardly through the frangible disk into the guide tube, to position the tip near the hot zone of the furnace. An inert gas is then passed through the inside member of the probe, and exhausted through the annulus, to dissipate the furnace heat.
