Abstract:
A power transfer system (10) for a vehicle to be driven by a prime mover through a first input drive shaft (12) and an electric motor through a second input drive shaft (14) carried by the vehicle. A power transfer system (10) supports the first and second input drive shafts (12, 14) to be mechanically interconnected to an output drive shaft (16) for driving driven wheels of the vehicle. A clutch (18) engages (18a) and disengages (18b) the first input drive shaft (12) with respect to the output drive shaft (16). A first output drive sprocket (24) is connected to the output drive shaft (16), a second output drive sprocket (22) is connected to the second input drive shaft (14), and an endless loop sprocket-engaging drive member (26) extends between the first and second sprockets (24, 22). A disconnect mechanism (20) engages (20b) and disengages (20a) the second input drive shaft (14) with respect to the output drive shaft (16). The disconnect mechanism (20) is located between one of the sprockets (24, 22) and its corresponding drive shaft (16, 14).
Abstract:
A high energy rocket propellant can be formed wherein the propellant binder has a cellulose acetate butyrate: polyethylene glycol ratio of about 0.01 to 0.03 on a weight basis.
Abstract:
A magnetron includes an evacuated envelope having therein a cathode assembly. An anode electrode surrounds the cathode assembly. The cathode assembly is formed of a helically wound filament having a quadrilateral cross-section. One of the surfaces of the quadrilateral cross-section filament is wider than the others. The wider surface of the filament faces the anode electrode. The quadrilateral cross-section thereby increasing the sag resistance of the filament.
Abstract:
A high permeability wick structure for heat pipes. A thin capillary liquid transport structure is encased within relatively thick sections of a plastic bonded aluminum powder wick. The capillary structure is formed of two layers of fine mesh screen separated only by small, randomly located, powdered metal granules. The capillary liquid transport structure can be built in numerous cross sectional configurations, including annular rings or spoke like radial sections.
Abstract:
A medical drip bag heater includes a flexible sheet of material configured to wrap around a drip bag, heating wires, velcro strips, and a thermostat control. The sheet of material includes a body portion with two side edges and a bottom flap with a bottom edge. The heating wires are embedded into the sheet of material and configured to electrically connect to a power source through a thermostat control. The velcro strips are fixedly attached to the two side edges and the bottom edge. The thermostat control controls the temperature of the heater and displays the temperature.
Abstract:
An anti-shudder constant velocity universal joint of the tripod type is provided having an outer joint member including three circumferentially distributed, axially extending longitudinal tracks formed therein, and an inner joint member having three circumferentially distributed radial journals arranged to engage the longitudinal tracks when the joint is assembled. The end of each journal is mated with and supports rotation of a roller bearing assembly, while rotating and pivoting within the roller bearing assembly upon articulation of the joint. This reduces the frictional forces on the roller bearings created by maintaining the roller bearings in a relatively proper/parallel orientation within the tracks by allowing the journal ends to freely rotate and pivot therein. A spherical-to-spherical contact surface is provided between the journal ends and an inner ring of the respective roller bearing assemblies to lower Hertzian stresses by distributing forces over a larger region of contact.
Abstract:
An improved crosslinked double base propellant composition is provided which has an improved binder system. The binder system is based on nitrocellulose (NC) having an intrinsic viscosity of from about 0.4 dl./gram to about 1.5 dl./gram and a polyester polyol or polyether polyol (polyol), in which the weight ratio of NC/polyol is from about 0.03/1 to about 0.8/1. The binder crosslinking agents are diisocyanates, and the ratio of NCO groups of the diisocyanates to combined OH groups of nitrocellulose and polyol is from about 0.7/1 to 1.2/1. Energetic plasticizer such as nitroglycerin comprises from about 68% to about 82% by weight of the binder. The binder contains a stabilizer and is capable of high solids loading, i.e., 70% to 77% solids.

A power transfer system (60) for a vehicle to be driven by a prime mover, such as an electric motor, through an input drive shaft (12) carried by the vehicle to be interconnected to an output drive shaft (18) for driving driven wheels of the vehicle. A single speed transmission (68) for an electric motor (62) of a driven vehicle (14) defined by a first drive sprocket (22) connected to an input drive shaft (12) to be driven by an electric motor (62), and a second drive sprocket (24) connected to an output drive shaft (18) for driving driven wheels of the electric motor driven vehicle (14), and an endless flexible loop power transferring member (26) extending between the first and second sprockets (22, 24). A parking brake mechanism (10) for engaging and disengaging with respect to the output drive shaft (18) to prevent rotation of the output drive shaft (18) when engaged by a vehicle operator through mechanical or electrical drive mechanisms (16, 16a).
Abstract:
An auxiliary electric drive assembly includes an alternating current induction motor, planetary speed reduction gearing and a differential. The differential may be either active or passive. The auxiliary drive system is utilized as the front axle in a rear wheel drive vehicle and the rear axle in a front wheel drive vehicle. Elimination of many of the components in a conventional four wheel drive system such as the transfer case and hybrid gears improves the overall efficiency and fuel economy of a vehicle so equipped.
