Abstract: The invention relates to operation of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) in the National Airspace System (NAS) using Remote Identification (Remote ID) and tracking. Specifically the invention relates to pre-flight initialization and programming of UAS with personality data needed to implement Remote ID functionality. The personality data includes UAS identity and configuration data. The pre-flight programming process promotes mission flexibility and efficient pre-flight preparation by reusing mission to mission common configuration and identity data elements, reprogramming only delta data. Operating modes may be used to easily reconfigure programming data to common mission specific requirements.

Abstract: Processes, systems, and methods are disclosed for periodic real-time reporting, receiving and mapping of in-flight turbulence, from a reporting source to a receiving aircraft, using the existing Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) messaging system. The turbulence reporting source may be a reporting aircraft or a ground station. Currently reserved ADS-B message format type codes are redefined as the turbulence message for reporting the sensed turbulence. Reception and display of the turbulence data communicated by the turbulence message may be displayed on an aircraft display system (MFD) is a variety of pilot selectable formants and overlays. Visual presentation characteristics of the reporting aircraft on the display are indicative of the sensed turbulence.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for periodic real-time reporting of in-flight turbulence experienced by aircraft using the existing Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) messaging system. The invention includes both broadcast to and reception from other aircraft and ground stations using the ADS-B system. Systems and methods for displaying the received turbulence reports on a cockpit display system are also disclosed. The disclosed systems and methods accomplish the objectives of the invention on a non-interference basis with existing ADS-B system functionality by utilizing currently reserved message types and/or unused data fields for the turbulence reporting. The invention is applicable to both 1090ES and 978 UAT ADS-B systems.

Abstract: A wireless systems and methods are disclosed for establishing a continuous real-time data link communicating flight data of a small UAV to a first smart device over a wireless network. An airborne wireless sensor system is adapted to be removably attached to the UAV. The airborne wireless sensor system has a sensor module for sensing UAV flight data, a communication module for establishing the wireless data-link network and transmitting the sensed UAV flight data the smart device. The smart device may have a software application which permits the user to define data formats for display which may them be communicated to the airborne sensor system to use in building the data pages transmitted to the smart device. Smart devices such as smart phones, smart watches, tablet computers and the like are contemplated to be used.

Abstract: The invention discloses a system and method of displaying UAS traffic in the cockpits of manned aircraft and also for use with other unmanned aircraft. The invention utilizes the FAA concept of remote identification for supplying the UAS data necessary to generate traffic reports. The invention discloses several different methods of communicating the UAS remote ID data to re-broadcast stations which would then re-broadcast the UAS traffic reports to receiving aircraft. The invention suggests leveraging the existing ASD-B and TIS-B FAA traffic reporting system to communicate the UAS traffic reports to the receiving aircraft.
