摘要: A method of making a copper oxide-titanium dioxide nanocatalyst for performing the catalytic oxidation of carbon monoxide is provided. The copper oxide-titanium dioxide nanocatalyst is in the form of copper oxide (CuO) nanoparticles supported on mesoporous titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanotubes. The copper oxide-titanium dioxide nanocatalyst is prepared by adding an aqueous solution of Cu(NO3)23H2O to an aqueous suspension of titanium dioxide nanotubes. Deposition precipitation at constant alkaline pH is used to form the copper oxide nanoparticles supported on mesoporous titanium dioxide nanotubes. Aqueous sodium carbonate is used to adjust the pH. The solid matter (copper oxide deposited on titanium dioxide nanotubes) is separated from the suspension, washed, dried and calcined, yielding the copper oxide-titanium dioxide nanocatalyst. Carbon monoxide may then flow over a fixed-bed reactor loaded with the copper oxide-titanium dioxide nanocatalyst at a temperature between 80° C. and 200° C.

摘要: The present invention provides methods for diagnosing an autistic spectrum disorder (ASD), comprising detecting the concentration of an amino acid adduct in a sample obtained from a subject, wherein said amino acid adduct is a glycated amino acid adduct, an oxidised amino acid adduct, or a nitrated amino acid adduct. Methods of the invention further comprise comparing the concentration of the amino acid adduct in the sample with the concentration of the same amino acid adduct in a reference standard; and identifying the presence or absence of a concentration difference of said amino acid adduct in the sample relative to the reference standard; wherein the presence or absence of a concentration difference correlates with the presence or absence of ASD. Diagnostic algorithms for use in methods of the invention are also provided.

摘要: To prevent accidental needle stick injuries, a syringe has a plunger configured to pull the syringe into the syringe barrel after clinical use. The syringe has an additional safety feature that restricts subsequent movement of the plunger. After the needle has been retracted in its entirety within the barrel of the syringe, movement of the plunger is restricted by a two-part locking mechanism, a notch on the plunger and a T-shaped slot on the barrel with a one-way catch section to prevent the needle tip from being pushed accidentally through the barrel wall.
