Such logical ports allow for customer separation and may be created based on VLAN ID and MPLS labels. Abstract: In an example embodiment, an apparatus comprising a physical layer processing device that comprises logic configured to process a packet received from a physical layer interface is disclosed. The physical layer processing device logic is further configured to determine a preamble portion of the packet and a data portion of the packet. The physical layer processing device logic is further configured to insert a timestamp into the preamble portion of the packet. The physical layer processing device logic forwards the packet with the timestamp inserted into the preamble.

Abstract: In an example embodiment, packets for a selected flow are replicated and sent over one or more diverse paths, such as a primary path and at least one secondary path, to a destination switching device. At the destination switching device, one copy of the replicated packets is selected for delivery to the destination, and the remaining copies are discarded. Abstract: A system and method for selective flooding in a multicast network are disclosed. Some embodiments provide for a promiscuous mode device on a network to signal to one or more other devices on the network that the promiscuous mode device is operating in promiscuous mode.
