The optimised hypersurface is calculated based on a real-time performance model of the internal combustion engine comprising sensor data from the internal combustion engine and the plurality of input variables. The map updating module further is configured to update the hypersurface of the control map based on the optimised hypersurface. A method of controlling an internal combustion engine is also provided.

Abstract: An internal combustion engine controller for an internal combustion engine comprising a memory and a processor. The memory is configured to store a plurality of control maps, each control map defining a hypersurface of actuator setpoints for controlling an actuator of the internal combustion engine based on a plurality of input variables to the internal combustion engine controller. The processor comprises a map updating module, a parameter updating module and an engine setpoint module. The map updating module is configured to calculate an optimised hypersurface for at least one of the control maps based on a performance objective function of the internal combustion engine, sensor data from the internal combustion engine, and the plurality of input variables, wherein the performance objective function includes parameters. The parameter updating module is configured to update a parameter of the performance objective function upon determining a change in an operating condition of the internal combustion engine. The parameters comprise one or both of: engine parameters associated with an engine model; and cost parameters associated with a cost function. The map updating module is further configured to update the hypersurface of the control map based on the optimised hypersurface. The engine setpoint module is configured to output a control signal to each actuator based on a location on the hypersurface of the respective control map defined by the plurality of input variables.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to an engine system having an engine and a cooling system. An engine vent line is fluidly connected to the engine for venting air from the engine system and bypassing the coolant flow circuit. The engine vent line has a hydraulic diameter and length selected to provide a predetermined engine head loss for the engine and a rate of flow of coolant in the at least one engine vent line at or below a maximum engine vent flow rate target during operation of the engine. The engine vent line comprises a helical section in which a portion is formed into a helix.

Abstract: An engine assembly comprises: an internal combustion engine having: a combustion chamber; an air inlet for supplying air to the combustion chamber; a fuel injector for supplying fuel to the combustion chamber; an exhaust outlet for releasing exhaust gas from the combustion chamber and a rotatable drive shaft, wherein combustion of fuel in air within the combustion chamber results in rotation of the drive shaft. The engine assembly further comprises: a turbocharger system comprising: a turbine configured to recover energy from exhaust gas provided via the exhaust gas outlet; and a turbocharger compressor configured to receive energy from the turbine and thereby to compress air for use in combustion of fuel in the combustion chamber. The engine assembly further comprises: a supercharger system comprising a supercharger compressor configured to receive kinetic energy from the drive shaft and to compress air for use in combustion in the combustion chamber. The engine assembly further comprises: a flywheel configured for kinetic energy storage; a first linkage between the drive shaft and the flywheel, wherein the linkage comprises a variable belt drive; and a second linkage between the first linkage and the supercharger compressor.

Abstract: A method for managing state of charge of a battery of an electric work vehicle to be ready to return to work at a return to work time that coincides with an end of a duration of immobilization. A charge mode is selected via a user interface. An initial state of charge of the battery and a target operational state of charge of the battery are used to calculate a targeted charge increase. A charge cycle comprising a charge rate is selected based on the charge mode and the targeted charge increase. A charging start time is calculated such that at the return to work time an actual state of charge of the battery corresponds to the target operational state of charge. The temperature of the battery is adjusted to be a target temperature at the charging start time. The charge cycle is started at the charging start time.

Abstract: A belt drive comprises a first pulley and at least one additional pulley and uses an elastic belt that is engagable over the pulleys. An auxiliary unit, connected to the first pulley, has a detent. A tensioning link comprises an open-ended slot for receiving in a slidable manner the detent. In an operating position of the belt drive the detent is locatable at a closed end of the open-ended slot and to obtain a belt changing position the detent is movable along the open-ended slot towards an open end of the open-ended slot. Movement of the detent along the open-ended slot requires simultaneous rotation of the auxiliary unit.

Abstract: The present invention refers to a method for operating an internal combustion engine in a transition operating mode, comprising the steps of determining an initial fuel oxidizer ratio threshold and a demanded fuel oxidizer ratio for a fuel mixture to be supplied to a combustion chamber of the engine. If the demanded fuel oxidizer ratio exceeds the initial fuel oxidizer ratio threshold, the engine is temporally operated in a raised response mode, in which a fuel oxidizer ratio threshold is increased from the initial fuel oxidizer ratio threshold to a raised fuel oxidizer ratio threshold, and a fuel mixture having the demanded fuel oxidizer ratio is supplied into the combustion chamber of the engine.
