Abstract:
An escape mask that enables one to breathe filtered air includes a foldable pocket size hood to cover the entire head, including a bag made of transparent plastic film material impermeable to gases, a multi-layered filter assembly containing at least one filter layer containing an antiseptic effective against microorganisms and at least one filter layer containing activated charcoal, the filter assembly being adhered to the bag over an aperture in the bag in the area where the mouth and nose would be for someone wearing the mask, and an exhalation valve embedded in the filter assembly. The mask further includes separate sealing means, not connected to the bag, to seal the bag around the neck, enabling adjustment of the bag over the head to reduce the free space inside the hood and to adjust the exhalation valve against the lips.
Abstract:
A prophylactic spermicidal lubricant composition and method for its use in safe sexual relations, including prevention of infection by HIV and other viruses. The composition contains: a) a cosmetically acceptable lubricant effective to reduce friction, thereby reducing the rupture of blood vessels during sexual relations; b) an effective amount of chlorhexidine salt active against HIV and other, viruses, the chlorhexidine salt immobilizing sperm and reacting with vaginal mucosa to form a barrier to the penetration of sperm calls into the uterus, but also destroying natural flora in the vagina and thereby permitting growth of fungi which causes ulceration; and c) an effective amount of a cosmetically acceptable fungicide to prevent the growth of fungi in the vagina in the absence of natural bacterial flora, destroyed by the chlorhexidine salt.
Abstract:
Gripper teeth on one part of a medical instrument, such as forceps, are symmetrically arranged on opposite sides of a median line, the teeth at one side of the median line being staggered by one half pitch relative to the teeth at the opposite side of the median line, whereby, the gripper teeth can interfit with mutually presented identically formed gripper teeth on another part of the medical instrument without the need to stagger the respective parts of the medical instrument, and, without the need to form the respective parts as non-identical parts.
Abstract:
A prophylactic lubricant composition for use during sexual relations, includes: a) lubricant effective to reduce friction, thereby reducing the rupture of blood vessels during sexual relations, b) an effective amount of spermicidal antiseptic active against HIV and other viruses, said antiseptic destroying the human immunodeficiency virus and other viruses, said antiseptic immobilizing the sperm and reacting with vaginal mucosa to form a barrier to the penetration of sperm cells into the uterus; and c) an effective amount of a fungicide to prevent the growth of fungi in the vagina which grow in the absence of natural bacterial flora destroyed by the antiseptic; said composition having no substantial detrimental effect.
Abstract:
A method for making molded plastic forceps comprising two opposing elongate arms joined together at one end thereof including the steps of assembling a three-part mold consisting of a first part substantially in the plane of the first arm of the forceps, a second part substantially in the plane of the second arm of the forceps, and a third part between the two arms and defining thereon the construction of the inner surface of the forceps, for example, on one side thereof a mold for a male engagement element and on the other side thereof a mold for a non-apertured female engagement element, injecting a plastics material into the mold, waiting until the plastics material has cooled and contracted, opening the mold by moving first the first part and then the third part, whereby the forceps remains in engagement with the third part, and removing the forceps from the third part by pressing the inside of the joined end away from the mold. The invention also relates to forceps made by this method.
Abstract:
A syringe system for storing medication and dispensing dosed quantities thereof, including a housing, a storage chamber in the housing, a dose chamber in the housing and in direct communication with the storage chamber, a first piston for introducing a fluid into the storage chamber and subsequently for introducing by pressure a predetermined volume of the fluid into the dose chamber, and a second piston for expelling the volume of fluid from the dose chamber and from the housing.
Abstract:
Disposable scissors for medical use comprising two plastic handles, two shaped stainless steel blades disposed between the handles and in contact with each other, pivot means coupling the handles and the blades, characterized in that the part of each handle through which the pivot extends defines an integral extension extending from the pivot outward over part of the blades to support and apply pressure thereon during the shearing movement.
Abstract:
A device for releasing conical coupling connections including a handle including opposing jaws which define wedge-shaped cross-sections. Preferably, the jaws define a central semi-circular portion adapted to engage the circumference of the conical connector and defining a cross-section of a truncated cone. The handle may include a scissor-like body or a unitary U-shaped body.
