    摘要: A shock absorber includes a valve assembly with a low speed valving system and a high speed valving system. Both systems control fluid flow through the respective valve assembly for fluid flow in the same direction. The low speed valving system is independently tunable in order to provide low speed damping to improve both the vehicle control and handling. The independent tuning of the low speed valving system allows the optimization of the low speed valving system in relation to the high speed valving system as well as the independent tuning of the high speed valving system in relation to the low speed valving system. The independent tuning of the two systems allow the achievement of a smooth transition between the two systems. The dual valving systems can be incorporated into the piston for a compression stroke, be incorporated into the piston for an extension stroke, or two dual valving systems can be incorporated into the piston for compression and extension strokes.

    摘要: A fifth wheel suspension assembly for damping movement between a towed vehicle and a towing vehicle is provided. The suspension assembly includes two rods on which a fifth wheel base is mounted. The fifth wheel base moves along the two rods in a direction of the longitudinal axis of the towing vehicle. The fifth wheel base defines two bores through which the rods extend. These bores also define fluid chambers disposed about the rods. Pistons are disposed about the rods within the fluid chambers and serve to dampen oscillatory movements of the towed vehicle relative to the towing vehicle. Springs disposed about the rods on either side of the base further dampen pitch motions imparted to the towing vehicle by the towed vehicle.

The suspension includes a first assembly that is mounted between the vehicle axle and frame and provides controlling damping of movement of the unsprung mass of the vehicle. The suspension also includes a second assembly that is mounted to the vehicle frame and provides controlled damping of movement of a spring disposed against the vehicle frame. The first and second assemblies are in fluid communication. An aperture and nose in the cam plate is aligned with an elongated opening in the bracket plate. The cam further includes a pin that is configured for insertion and movement within an arcuate aperture in the bracket plate. A fastener extends through the aperture and the nose of the cam, through the elongated openings in the bracket plates, and through the suspension control arm. Rotation of the cam causes a corresponding movement of the pin along the arcuate-shaped aperture of the bracket and of the fastener along the elongated openings of the bracket.
