摘要: The specification discloses fittings for attachment of boot plates or otherwise closing the end of pipe piling and for coupling vertically superimposed sections of pipe piling, which fittings are readily and quickly installed and which provide a seal with the pipe to prevent water from entering the interior of the piling, as by seepage, while the piling is in the ground prior to being filled with concrete. One type of fitting is in the form of a shallow pan, on the bottom of which is a boot plate, and the walls of which have a portion smaller in diameter than the outer diameter of the pipe piling so as to expand thereover and provide a metal-to-metal seal with the piling. Variations of this type are disclosed wherein the bottom of the pan is a disc of heavy gauge metal welded to a circular tapered sleeve of relatively thin gauge. Another type of fitting is in the form of a sleeve having an annular groove formed internally midway of its ends in which is disposed a drive ring of relatively heavy metal having O-ring seals on opposite sides thereof. The pipe piling expands the opposite ends of the coupling in moving inwardly into contact with the drive ring and is sealed by engagement with the O-ring seals. A variation of the latter type of fitting is adapted to couple pipe piling of different diameters.

摘要: The specification discloses a sleeve type coupling for providing a limited flexible connection between two sections of pipe, particularly large diameter pipe such as shore dredge pipe. The coupling has an overall length in the range of one and a half to two times the diameter of the pipe sections to be coupled and is of uniform wall thickness tapering uniformly from end to end except for a relatively short section intervening between the opposite end sections. The end sections are tapered in the range of 3 1/2 * to 5* with respect to the longitudinal axis and the section intervening between the end sections is of a length approximately 0.15 to 0.20 times the diameter of the pipe sections to be coupled, and is tapered at an angle to the longitudinal axis substantially larger than that of the end sections. Another embodiment of sleeve coupling comprises an inwardly tapered downstream end section, a generally cylindrical upstream end portion closely surrounding the upstream pipe section and an intervening tapered section of relatively steep slope on which the end of the upstream pipe section abuts. The cylindrical end portion is adapted to be sealed by an annular seal to the upstream pipe section. Another embodiment of sleeve coupling is similar to the previously described one except that a wear sleeve is secured inside the coupling sleeve at the intervening tapered section for resisting wear due to effluent abrasion on the coupling itself.

摘要: The specification discloses a number of pipe coupling devices for sealingly connecting the adjacent ends of two coaxially disposed pipe sections. All of the devices utilize a common principle for effecting compression of a gasket ring seal, namely the transfer of the turns of a spiral or helical band of relatively thin gauge metal from one side to the other of a cylindrical or disc-like radial wall in a housing, through a slotted opening in the housing wall or between two successive roller bearings carried on the housing, by relative rotation of the housing and the spiral or helical band coaxially with respect to the pipes to be joined. All embodiments have a pair of ring seals, one for each pipe section, the ring seals being integrally joined or separate. In certain embodiments, the ring seals are simultaneously or separately compressed by rotation of the housing with respect to the spiral or helical band. In other embodiments the helical band is bonded at opposite ends to a circular sleeve coaxial to the pipe and intervening between the pipe and the housing. In these embodiments, compression of the gasket ring seals may be effected by rotation of the circular sleeves relative to the housing or vice versa.
