Abstract: Various components for artificial candles and other lighting devices are described that can be used to create a realistic flame effect in the devices. The devices include a flame piece or element that extends upwardly from a body of the device. A light source can be disposed with respect to the flame piece such that the flame piece is illuminated. A variety of drive mechanisms could be disposed within the body of the device that can cause movement of the flame piece with respect to the body or housing. The flame piece can be coupled to a body or housing of the device using various components to suspend at least a portion of the flame piece within the body or housing.

Abstract: Systems and methods of driving a light source, such as a light emitting diode (LED), while minimizing power consumption. Different techniques can be implemented in circuits that eliminate the traditional need for a sense resistor. By eliminating the sense resistor, a LED driving circuit's efficiency can be improved by up to and exceeding 30%. A pulse-width modulator can be used to control current flow in a buck, boost, or buck-boost circuits. Many of the configurations discussed eliminate the need for a sense resistor, which needlessly dissipates power. Others use a sense resistor minimally compared to traditional LED driving circuits.

Abstract: An electronic lighting system comprising an electronic lighting device and a base device is disclosed. The electronic lighting device removably couples the base device to thereby provide power to the base device. More generally, an electronic system comprising a battery cover configured to couple a first electronic lighting device, and a second electronic device is disclosed. The battery cover comprises a battery contact and a first electrical contact, and the second electronic device comprises a second electrical contact. Power is provided to the second electronic device via the electrical coupling of the various electrical contacts.
