The side incident surface receives incident lights from a light source. The micro-structure array has a plurality of elongated prisms, and an end of each of the prisms is oriented to the side incident surface, so that an extension direction of each prism is parallel to or nearly parallel to a normal line of a light-emitting surface of the light source. The light guide plate can increase light transmission distance to provide uniform brightness. The structures of the prisms are maintained in a uniform arrangement, so that a prism mold need not be re-designed to satisfy requirements of panels with different sizes.

The present invention discloses a backlight module having a light guide plate and a plurality of backlight sources. The light guide plate contains a plurality of grooves which divide the light guide plate into several domains. All of the grooves have a specific cross section which may be triangular, trapezoidal, or convex curved in shape. The light guide plate can reflect light emitted by the backlight sources through specific angles resulted from the specific cross sections of the grooves. Therefore, it is entirely possible to achieve the target of local dimming of the backlight module by means of a design of positions of the grooves and of angles of the cross sections.

According to the present invention, a backlight module comprises a light guide plate for guiding light, a first light source unit, and a second light source unit. A ridge-shaped groove is disposed on the middle of the bottom surface of the light guide plate. The first light source unit and the second light source unit are respectively disposed at the opposite sides of the light guide plate. Both of the first light source unit and the second light source unit comprises at least one light source. Each of the light sources of the first light source unit is symmetrically arranged with each of the light sources of the second light source unit on a one-on-one basis. The ridge-shaped groove divides the backlight module into two independent luminance domains, each dividing into multiple subdomains. Actual luminance of each subdomain is adjustable based on its predetermined brightness and distributions, reducing power consumption and enhance an image contrast.

A liquid crystal display (LCD) is disclosed. The LCD comprises a front frame, a panel, a plastic frame and an optical film assembly. The panel comprises a display region and a non-display region, and the plastic frame and the front frame cooperate with each other to sandwich the non-display region of the panel therebetween. The plastic frame is formed with a V-groove(s) on a surface thereof that faces towards a light exiting surface of the optical film assembly. In this way, light rays traveling through the optical film assembly to the lower surface of the plastic frame are reflected by the V-groove(s) so as to be mostly concentrated onto the non-display region of the panel and then gradually attenuated to disappear. This can reduce the bright lines appearing in the display region of the panel and, consequently, improve the displaying effect of the whole LCD.

A light source module including light sources and secondary optical lens is proposed. The secondary optical lens includes an incident curved surface, an emitting curved surface, and a bottom of prism. The incident curved surface has a concave area defined as a cavity where the light source is disposed. A light beam generated by the light source is emitted to the inside of the secondary optical lens through the incident curved surface. The light beam is emitted outwards through the emitting curved surface after being reflected by the prism microstructures on the bottom of prism. The light beam reflected by the emitting curved surface can be emitted to the inside of the secondary optical lens again by using the prism microstructures. Therefore, the light source module can reduce the scattering amount of the light beam, thereby improving the utilization of the light beam generated by the light source.
