    摘要: Expansion of an air bag can be smoothly effected even in a small space by controlling the air bag in thickness and introduction of the gas for expansion, and the protection of an occupant can be rapidly implemented with a relatively small volume of the gas. An air bag device comprises a first air chamber 12 for protection of the chest or the waist of an occupant, a second air chamber 14 for protection of the head of the occupant, and a lower portion of the diffuser bag 30 interposed therebetween for portioning out gas from an inflator 20, wherein the second air chamber 14 has a first tether 50 forming a gas passage 14a for guiding gas jetted from gas outlets of the lower portion of the diffuser bag 30 into the second air chamber 14 so as to go around the tether of a head protection region of an air bag 1, from the back side thereof toward the front side thereof, and has a second tether 52 for forming a gap provided at the lower end of the first tether 50 in the vicinity of the gas outlets, for letting a portion of the gas escape into a front part of the second air chamber 14.

    摘要: A pillar reinforcement of a center pillar comprises an upper part and a lower part with a boundary line of these parts being positioned below the middle level of the pillar reinforcement. The upper and lower parts respectively include side wall portions which extend along a vehicle side face and pairs of vertical wall portions which extend inwardly from front and rear end portions of the side wall portions. The pair of vertical wall portions of the lower part is slant relative to the vehicle width direction so that the distance between the vertical wall portions becomes wider toward the inward direction, and a slant angle of the pair of vertical wall portions of the lower part is greater than that of the vertical portions of the upper part.

    摘要: An inflatable airbag, which inflates and comes out from a side portion of a seat back, comprises a head-protection portion and a torso-protection portion which are formed separately. A volume of the head-protection portion for protecting an occupant's head is configured to be greater than that of the torso-protection portion for protecting at least an occupant's chest. A tether connecting the both airbag portions can provide a proper forward inflation of the head-protection portion, suppressing an upward inflation of the head-protection portion. An arrangement of a vent hole or a coating layer can make an inflation sustaining period of the head-protection portion longer than that of the torso-protection portion in the inflated condition.
