A granular controlled-release pesticide comprising “core” granules such as ammonium sulfate, an inner polymer membrane formed in situ on said granules of ammonium sulfate, an acephate pesticide applied to the inner polymer membrane on the core granules, and an outer controlled-release polyurethane membrane formed in situ on said pesticide to permit controlled release of the pesticide.
Abstract:
The present invention described a polymer coated fertilizer, such as urea, subsequently coated with a layer of sulfur and thereafter a further coating of polymer. Preferably, the polymer coatings are formed by the direct in situ co-polymerization of the components of the polymer on the fertilizer and on the sulfur coating. The compositions provide positive controlled release characteristics, are abrasion and impact resistant and are substantially more economical to produce than polymer coated fertilizers.
Abstract:
The present invention describes a sulfur-coated urea slow release granular fertilizer having a uniform, durable polymeric coating over the sulfur-coating. The polymer coating is formed by the direct in situ co-polymerization of diethylene glycol-triethanolamine polyol and a diisocyanate on the surface of the sulfur-coated urea granule. The polymeric coating provides improved impact resistance of the composite coated granule.
Abstract:
A storage-stable dispersion providing melamine in the form of a concentrated liquid for effective use as an end product or as an ingredient for conversion into other products. The dispersion contains melamine particles finer than about 50 microns in diameter, admixed with a chemically inert suspending liquid, having a specific gravity between 0.9 and 1.3 grams per milliliter, containing between 0.03 and 0.20 percent of a chemically inert thickening agent, which interacts physically with the suspending liquid to increase viscosity to between 250 and 3000 centipoise, thereby substantially maintaining the melamine particles in a stable dispersion and preventing their settling. The dispersion composition is an effective form of melamine for accurate dispensing as an agricultural, pulp and paper, or fire-retardant ingredient. Effective thickening agents include xanthan gums, carrageenans, polyacrylamide, chemically treated cellulose, and clays. Nonionic surfactants are helpful in wetting the melamine particles with the suspending liquid. The suspending liquid may be water, aqueous solutions, hydrophilic organic polyols, and high molecular weight organic liquid polyols.

Herbicide-fertilizer combination granular products are described comprising singular, or blended, basic fertilizer granular materials and impregnated with or coated thereon a herbicidal material for controlling broadleaf weeds postemergence. The weed and feed fertilizer products uniquely are characterized by the size, weight and physical property of the fertilizers and any filler particles contained in the weed and feed fertilizer blend product in that the particle size is substantially in the micro-sized range of 500 to 1500 microns; the particle weight generally is less than one-tenth that of customary regular-sized weed and feed particles; and there is a greater cohesion of the particle to the weed foliage. These micro-sized particles exhibit a significantly higher incidence of contact with and greater adhesion to the foliage of weeds thus providing superior weed control.
