摘要:
The method of forming a lightweight, high performance, glass fiber blanket for acoustical and thermal insulation, that includes treating glass fibers with a fluid binding agent at elevated temperature to form a first cohesive glass fiber layer of thickness t1 traveling endwise, and winding that layer into a roll above a travel zone of that layer, repeating said treating to form a second cohesive glass fiber layer of thickness t2 traveling endwise over said zone below said roll and into an oven, and unrolling said first layer from said roll to travel into the oven in overlying surface to surface contacting relation to the traveling second layer, subjecting said layers to heat treatment and pressurization in the oven to compress the first and second layers to a controlled density thickness t3 which is substantially less than t1 and t2, and to progressively bond said first and second layers together in laminated relation to form the blanket, and removing said laminated product from the oven.

A filter composite comprises a first layer of glass fibers having random orientation, and synthetic resinous fibers extending in close association with the glass fibers, the glass fibers having: i) diameters between 1 and 16 microns ii) lengths between about ¼ and 1½ inches the synthetic fibers having denier between 1.6 and 40, and length between ¼ and 2 inches.

The disclosure of this invention describes a composite glass fiber structure that includes first and second layers of glass fibers extending in adjacent parallel relation; synthetic resin coating the fibers of each layer and providing a bond holding the layers together in the parallel relation; the fibers of the first layer having smaller diameters than the fibers of the second layer; the first and second layers being gas compressed to have densities of between about 0.25 and 0.45 lbs. per cubic foot.

摘要:
A method of forming a fibrous composite that includes forming first and second layered groups of fibers extending in side-by-side relation; and passing gas such as air through the groups of fibers to effect controlled reduction in overall thickness of the two groups of fibers. The two groups of fibers are typically bonded together, and a think flexible, porous support layer may support the first layer which consists of glass fibers of smaller diameter than the glass fibers in the second layer.
