An access point, a layer 2 switch, and multicast handover supporting method using the access point and the layer 2 switch are provided. According to the method of supporting multicast handover, when a mobile node is handed over from one cell to another while being provided with a multicast service in a wireless mobile communication network, the L2 switch performs multicast traffic routing in response to reception of MAC address information and multicast service source and group information from the access point. Hence, multicast traffic can be supported to be fast and seamlessly handed over within layer 2 network equipment.

The apparatus includes a terminal virtualizer configured to virtualize a group of a plurality of transmitter terminals of a first user and a group of receiver terminals of a second user through the change of source and destination addresses of a packet that is transmitted between the transmitter terminal group and the receiver terminal group so that the transmitter terminal group and the receiver terminal group may be recognized as if they were single terminals. Accordingly, it is possible to provide seamless IP connectivity regardless of which terminal is currently being used by a to user.

A method for providing a multicast service for an MN includes: transmitting, by an MN connected to a first access point within a first access network, multicast information of the MN to an agent of the first access network through the first access point, wherein the multicast information includes information on a multicast source and a multicast group; transmitting and receiving messages between agents according to a predetermined protocol based on the multicast information of the MN transmitted to the agent of the first access network, and setting a multicast path between the multicast source and the MN of the first access network between the agents; transmitting, by the agent of the first access network, the multicast information of the MN to the MICS; and registering, by the MICS, the multicast information of the MN transmitted from the agent of the first network.

Disclosed are a multicast source registration method, a multicast receiver joining method and a multicast service providing method during handover, in which another mobile node may constantly receive multicast data even when a mobile node performs handover while transmitting multicast data in various mobile networks. According to the present invention, a safe and fast mobility of a network-based multicast source can be provided.
