Also, methods are provided for visualizing intracellular glucose uptake, screening anticancer agents, and diagnosing cancer using the compounds. They exhibit preferential uptake by cancer cells, penetrability sufficient to allow bright section images, high water solubility, high pH resistance and low toxicity in addition to applicability to living cells in deep tissues over a long period of time.
