A slider of a magnetic head device has a side that faces a recording medium and on which a first positive pressure is exerted on the leading side and a second positive pressure is exerted on the trailing side. In the area between the first positive pressure area and the second positive pressure area, a small second negative pressure is created at the front. A first negative pressure larger than the second negative pressure is created at the rear. A third positive pressure is exerted on both sides of the first negative pressure area. When air density decreases, the small second negative pressure in a middle area and the large first negative pressure at the rear of the second negative pressure area stabilize the pitch angle of the slider and prevent an excessive decrease in the flying distance of a trailing end portion.

    摘要: A magnetic head slider and a fabrication method for the magnetic head slider are provided in which a change in crown profile shapes resulting from a temperature difference is suppressed. The magnetic head slider includes a read/write element integrated on a slider body. A medium-facing surface of the slider body disposed to face a recording medium is subjected to crown processing. Both longitudinal ends of a slider-bottom surface disposed opposite the medium-facing surface are bonded to a suspension by means of resin adhesive. In this case, the slider-bottom surface is entirely coated with a film having a thermal expansion coefficient smaller than that of the slider body so as to suppress thermal deformation.

    摘要: The present invention provides a magnetic head including a slider 1 and a thin-film element 3, a magnetic recording/reproducing apparatus including the same, and a method for manufacturing the same. According to the present invention, since a resist layer is formed on the thin-film element 3 prior to a milling process, the thin-film element can be protected from the influence of the milling process, and generation of an element recess can be inhibited. Further, since the slider 1 is preferably formed of a ceramic composition including Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 and TiC, the roughness can be readily adjusted by the milling process. Moreover, when the center line mean roughness of each opposing surface 5 of the slider, said surface opposing the recording medium, is represented by R.sub.ah1 and that of the disk serving as the recording medium is represented by R.sub.ad, the relationship, 6 nm.ltoreq.R.sub.ah1 +R.sub.ad .ltoreq.19 nm is preferably satisfied. Due to this, adsorption between the opposing surface and the surface of the disk can be prevented, and the torque for starting the disk can be lowered.

    摘要: A magnetic head device floats above a surface of a rotating recording medium due to airflow. A front positive-pressure surface is formed in the leading side of an opposed surface of a slider, and a rear positive-pressure surface is formed in the trailing side. A front edge portion of the rear positive-pressure surface has a shape recessed toward the trailing side, and a concave portion is formed from the front edge portion toward the magnetic functional unit. Airflow flowing between the slider and the recording medium is concentrated in the rear of the concave portion. When the magnetic functional unit emits heat and thus a portion projects toward the recording medium, a decrease in the floating distance of the magnetic functional unit can be counteracted by the local positive pressure of the airflow concentrated locally.
