摘要: Blue-green algae, such as Aphanizomenon flos aquae (AFA) or Spirulina (Arthrospira) can be fractionated. Anti-inflammatory aqueous fractions of blue-green algae are described herein that include low molecular weight molecules. Methods for reducing inflammation in a subject are also described. These methods include administering to the subject compositions comprising a therapeutically effective amount of the anti-inflammatory aqueous fraction blue-green algae, or dried form thereof, thereby reducing inflammation.

摘要: Methods are provided herein for determining antioxidant activity of a test sample in intact cells. The method includes determining the antioxidant capacity of a test sample in intact red blood cells, wherein the test sample is added to intact red blood cells and oxidative damage is measured by alteration of fluorescence intensity of an oxidation-sensitive fluorescent indicator dye.

摘要: Disclosed herein are extracts of blue green algae, such as Aphanizomenon flos aquae, that are enriched for a selectin ligand, such as an L-selectin ligand. Selectin ligands isolated from blue-green algae cells are disclosed herein. Methods are described for isolating these selectin ligands. The purified selectin ligands are of use in inducing stem cell mobilization in a subject. Thus, methods for inducing stem cell isolation that include administering a therapeutically effective amount of the extract enriched form the selectin ligand, or an isolated selectin ligand, are disclosed herein.

摘要: A method of using fucoidan to enhance stem cell mobilization in a subject, including hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) and bone marrow stem cells (BMSCs) is provided. In the method, a blended composition of fruits, mushrooms, microorganisms, maternal fluids, and extracts thereof are used to promote trafficking of stem cells, resulting in migration of the stem cells to specific sties of maintenance an and repair within tissues and/or organs. The method also involves the use of fucoidan obtained from particular algae species to support release and circulation of HSCs, as demonstrated by significantly increase circulation of HSCs in the peripheral blood. Increased circulation of HSCs and/or BMSCs and migration towards sites of maintenance and the natural regeneration mechanisms in the body. Further provided is a dosing regimen for the administration of fucoidan and a method of enhancing release and circulation of stem cells.

摘要: Consumption of blue-green algae, or extracts thereof, enhances trafficking or homing of stem cells in animals by inducing a transient increase in the population of stem cells present in the animal's circulatory system. The animal may be healthy or suffering some disease or physiological condition.
