Abstract:
Disclosed is a detergent composition comprising a polyhydroxy fatty acid amide surfactant of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is H, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 hydrocarbyl, 2-hydroxy ethyl, 2 hyroxy propyl, or a mixture thereof, R.sup.2 is C.sub.5 -C.sub.31 hydrocarbyl, and Z is a polyhydroxy-hydrocarbyl having a linear hydrocarbyl chain with at least 3 hydroxyls connected directly to said chain, or an alkoxylated derivative thereof, and a non-borate, non-borate-forming bleaching agent such as the persulfates and especially the percarbonate bleaches. Mixtures of non-perborates with bleach activators such as tetraacetyl ethylene diamine are also used in the compositions. Also disclosed is a method for cleaning substrates, such as fabrics, fibers, textiles, hard surfaces, etc., at temperatures below about 50.degree. C., especially below about 40.degree. C., with a detergent composition containing polyhydroxy fatty acid amide surfactant, auxiliary detersive surfactants, optional detersive adjunct ingredients, and bleaching agent, wherein the bleaching agent is a non-borate, non-borate-forming bleaching agent, especially percarbonate bleach.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a process for the N-oxidation of polyamine polymers comprising treating said polyamine polymers with an effective amount of hydrogen peroxide in an aqueous or partly aqueous solution in the presence of heavy metal ion sequestrant and a metal oxide catalyst selected from tungstate, molybdate and vanadate.
Abstract:
Bleaching compositions, laundry and automatic dishwashing detergent compositions comprising particular quaternary-substituted bleach activators, are provided. More specifically, the invention relates to compositions which provide enhanced cleaning/bleaching benefits though the selection of quaternary-substituted bleach activators having specific leaving groups with a conjugate acid pKa above 13 and with specific ratios of the rate of perhydrolysis to the rate of hydrolysis and the rate of perhydrolysis to the rate of diacylperoxide production. Included are preferred activator compounds and methods for washing fabrics, hard surfaces, and tableware using the activators.
Abstract:
Certain sugar derivatives have bleach-activating effect both on "hydrophilic" stains (e.g. tea or red wine) and on "hydrophobic" stains (e.g. grass or tomato sauce). The compounds in question are derivatives of pentoses or hexoses, having a long-chain acyl group and one or more short-chain acyl or aroyl groups attached through ester bonds. Optionally, a short-chain alkyl group is attached through a glycosidic bond. These compounds are non-toxic and biodegradable, and can conveniently be prepared by methods known in the art.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to anionic compounds and their application in detergent compositions. The compounds have the dual benefits of surfactancy and suds suppression.
Abstract:
Treatment of textiles whereby the textiles are contacted with a medium comprising a bleach, anionic species and a neutralizing system for the anionic species, wherein the neutralizing system comprises quaternary ammonium compounds. The composition for textile treatment contains less than 10% by weight of water, and is essentially free of alkanolamines. The composition may further contain a metallo catalyst.
