Abstract:
This invention relates to a plastic identification card. A magnetic encoding panel is printed, preferably by screen printing. This enables the magnetic encoding panel to be applied more economically than with conventional magnetic tapes. The printing of the magnetic encoding panel is applied to a drop out area in the transparent protecting coating, followed by polishing both of the protective coating and the printed magnetic encoding panel. This greatly increases the passes through a reader prior to failure of the magnetic encoding panel.
Abstract:
A lighting fixture and method using multiple reflections having a housing with an open side. A lamp is mounted in the housing and produces rays of light which pass through the open side. First and second reflecting surfaces are carried by the housing for reflecting light. The first and second reflecting surfaces are positioned on opposite sides of the lamp so that direct rays from the lamp will strike the first reflecting surface and be reflected onto the second reflecting surface and then will be reflected through the open side of the housing at a high angle with respect to the angle of the original direct rays from the lamp.
Abstract:
Apparatus and method for increasing the time that a quartz crystal can sense the rate at which evaporated material is broadcast onto a substrate wherein a chopper employing a disk with a slot is disposed between the source of the evaporated material and the crystal to reduce the exposure of the crystal to evaporated material to a fraction of the time that the substrate is exposed wherein the chopper frequency is not in tune with the dither frequency of the material evaporator. Barrier means prevents the chopper slot from significantly changing dimensions due to the build up of material on its defining edges, while shield means prevents the a crystal from being exposed to evaporated material from a source that it does not control.
Abstract:
Multi-layer coating apparatus and system for coating a substrate having a coating chamber and means for advancing the substrate in a horizontal position through the coating chamber. The coating chamber is provided with means for depositing the coating on the bottom side of the substrate as it is advanced through the chamber. Means is provided for preventing one substrate from bumping into another and for providing a predetermined spacing from the substrates as they are advanced through the coating chamber.

Lighting fixture having a housing with an open side. A lamp is mounted in the housing that is capable of producing light rays which pass through the open side of the housing. A protective covering of glass is carried by the housing and encloses the open side. The protective covering of glass is provided with a surface which has a high angle anti-reflection coating disposed on the surface.

Abstract:
This invention relates to a plastic identification card with an improved signature panel. There is a problem with existig credit cards in that the existing signature can be obscured by printing over with a patch of clay composition similar to that used to provide the original signature panel. A new signature can then be applied. This problem is overcome by providing a signature panel which is sandwiched between the core stock and a protective transparent film. The signature panel comprises a layer of chemicals reactive under the pressure of a signature to release a colored dye conforming with the signature.

Lighting fixture having housing with an open side. A lamp is mounted in the housing and is capable of producing light rays which pass through the open side of the housing. A glass protective covering is carried by the housing and encloses the open side. At least one surface of the glass is provided with anti-reflection film formed by a chemical etch/leach process on the one surface. The anti-reflection film increases the transmission of the high angle light rays from the lamp.
Abstract:
Liquid crystal display device having first and second substantially transparent insulative plates having front and rear surfaces with said plates being arranged so that the rear surface of the first plate and the front surface of the second plate face each other. An antireflection coating is disposed on at least one of said front and rear surfaces of said front plate. A conducting coating is carried on said rear surface of said first plate and said front surface of said second plate. Means secures the first plate to the second plate so that there is a space provided between said conductive layers. A layer of liquid crystal material is disposed in said space. In the method, an antireflection coating is provided on a surface so that the pattern carried by the display device is invisible when the display device is not activated.
