Abstract:
A method for forming, filling and closing containers, and a three-turret intermittant motion packaging machine for carrying out the method. The packaging machine comprises a bottom former turret which is rotated in a single indexing or intermittent movement and which is supplied with container blanks from a container blank magazine. The container blanks are erected and loaded onto mandrels on the bottom former turret, and as the bottom former turret is intermittently rotated through 360*, with a single indexing motion, the containers carried thereon have the bottom ends thereof closed and sealed, and at a predetermined point in said rotation, four of the bottom formed containers are simultaneously transferred to two filler turrets for filling and closing operations. Two of the bottom formed containers are transferred to a first filler turret, and two of the bottom formed containers are transferred to a second filler turret. The two filler turrets are moved in a double indexing, intermittent movement and they perform similar functions. The two filler turrets rotate in opposite directions and discharge two filled and formed containers simultaneously to a discharge conveyor for transfer to a casing station.
Abstract:
A tool for pressure generating teeth on the periphery of a cylindrical workpiece, the tool having teeth thereon having an improved configuration which increases the strength of the teeth on the tools and increases the useful life of the tools.
Abstract:
A toothed forming tool for pressure forming spline teeth, gear teeth and the like on the periphery of a cylindrical workpiece, the relationships of the teeth on the tool with respect to each other being improved whereby the useful life of the tool is increased and flow characteristics of the workpiece material are improved during the process of generating teeth on the workpiece.
Abstract:
A data retrieval and processing system relies upon a center multiplexor and a memory address multiplexor in a system of registers and data processing means to both feed and receive both process information and operational data using internal programming stored within at least one memory and simple input control words and data, in response to which the center multiplexor provides internal switching between said aforementioned sources to provide information output. Priority selection is provided in servicing terminals and gives immediate exclusive attention and direct memory access to a particular urgent need exhibited through a selected control electronics.

A tool for pressure forming teeth on the periphery of a cylindrical workpiece, the tool having an improved tooth generating configuration which improves the useful life of the tools and which improves the flow characteristics of the metal in the workpiece during the tooth generating process.
Abstract:
A workpiece support apparatus for mounting in position adjacent a workpiece to provide positive back-up support and prevent deflection of the workpiece during a machining operation thereon. The workpiece support apparatus includes a housing having a first bore formed therein and a second bore formed perpendicularly to said first bore and communicating therewith. A workpiece support pin is adjustably mounted in the second bore and it has one end extended outwardly of the housing for operative engagement with a workpiece. A collet member and a collet operating bushing are operatively mounted in the second bore around the support pin for releasably locking the pin in an adjusted position. A manually operable wedge is movably mounted in the first bore, and it is adapted to operatively engage the collet operating bushing for moving the collet member from an inoperative position to a support pin locking position.
Abstract:
Tools having a code number are placed in individual tool positions on an endless conveyor from which they are to be selected. A separate identification switch associated with each tool position on the conveyor is set with a coded number representing the tool in the associated tool position on the conveyor. As the conveyor is moved, selector switch means are closed in accordance with the movement of the conveyor to sequentially qualify identification switches associated with particular tool positions on the conveyor. A light is provided adjacent each identification switch associated with each tool position on the conveyor and the selector switch means includes means for energizing the light adjacent the selector switch qualified thereby. On qualifying the identification switch associated with the position of a desired tool, the conveyor is first slowed and then stopped.
Abstract:
A HIGHLY SENSITIVE AND COMPLETELY STABLE CIRCUIT FOR AND METHOD OF DETECTING LOW AMPLITUDE, SHORT DURATION DIRECT CURRENT SIGNAL VARIATIONS ASSOCIATED WITH SPARKING BETWEEN AN ELECTRODE TOOL AND A CONDUCTING WORKPIECE IN AN ELECTROCHEMICAL MACHINING PROCESS OR THE LIKE AND SUBSTANTIALLY IMMEDIATELY PRODUCING A CONTROL SIGNAL IN RESPONSE TO A PREDETERMINED DETECTED SIGNAL LEVEL IS DISCLOSED. THE STRUCTURE INCLUDES A POLARITY DISCRIMINATING SENSING CIRCUIT FOR INITIALLY DETECTING THE SIGNAL VARIATIONS, AN AMPLIFIER CIRCUIT FOR PROVIDING AN AMPLIFIED AND STABILIZED SIGNAL SUBSTANTIALLY IMMEDIATELY ON SENSING A SIGNAL VARIATION OF THE PROPER POLARITY AND OUTPUT CIRCUIT FOR PROVIDING AN OUTPUT SIGNAL IN RESPONSE TO A SELECTED PORTION OF THE AMPLIFIED AND STABILIZED SIGNAL, INCLUDING MEANS FOR SELECTING THE LEVEL OF THE SELECTED SIGNAL PORTION OPERABLE TO PROVIDE THE OUTPUT SIGNAL, MEANS FOR CUTTING OFF THE AMPLIFIED AND STABILIZED SIGNAL WHEN THE SELECTED LEVEL IS BELOW A PREDETERMINED MINIMUM AND MEANS RESPONSIVE TO A NUMBER OF AMPLIFIED AND STABILIZED SIGNALS, WHICH HAVE A LEVEL BELOW THE SELECTED LEVEL RECEIVED IN A PREDETERMINED TIME FOR PROVIDING AN OUTPUT SIGNAL.
Abstract:
Method and apparatus for electronically damping a stepping motor to prevent the rotor from oscillating in advancing from position to position. The electronic damping includes digital circuits constructed and defined for advancing the rotor from position to position and while advancing, energizing all of the stator windings for a time interval less than the time period required to advance the rotor from position to position and yet of sufficient time duration to prevent the rotor from hunting when it arrives at its new position.
Abstract:
An improved skiving machine device and a new method for preparing and forming paperboard side seam blank providing it for a smooth edge which a roughened skived surface can fold around and adhesively secure to its adjacent surface forming a protected edge for the side seam flap of a paperboard container blank with contact being made between the roughened paper surface and the adjacent side seam flap giving good bond characteristics and accuracy.
