    摘要: Aspects of the disclosure can provide a network switch having reduced power consumption. The network switch can include a plurality of ports that are configured to receive and transmit network traffic. The plurality of ports can be configured in a power-on mode and a power-off mode. Further, at least a first port among the plurality of ports can be configured to remain in the power-on mode and to receive power control instructions. In addition, the network switch can include a power controller. The power controller can change the power modes of selected ports among the plurality of ports in response to the power control instructions received through the first port.

The method for processing packet can include selecting a group of parameter ranges based on information contained within a packet, determining a search key based on the packet and whether a parameter of the packet is within one or more of the parameter ranges, determining a rule based on the search key corresponding to the packet and the group of parameter ranges, and executing an action that is associated with the rule on the packet. In addition, the disclosure provides an apparatus for processing packet. Further, the disclosure provides a packet switching device that can apply policy on a packet based on parameters of the packet and ranges among a group of ranges, within which a parameter of the packet belongs.

In an embodiment, the packet reassembly unit examines headers in received fragments of a data unit and using the headers to reassemble the data unit, wherein the headers correspond to a protocol layer above an IP-layer. In another embodiment, the packet reassembly unit is located downstream from the forwarding engine in a packet forwarding pipeline, and the forwarding engine skips processing fragments received subsequent to a first received fragment.
