Abstract:
The present invention is a high pressure quick connector especially for use in connecting brake lines of a vehicle. The connector includes a housing which selectively receives a tube retainer cap. Retaining means such as a garter spring or snap ring allow for a low force insertion of the cap into the housing with an very high pull-off force. The cap is used to trap a tube with a bead upset, and the tube may be removed after the cap is unlocked. A second way of releasing the tube includes the use of a tube retainer plug selectively received in the cap, the upset trapped between the plug and cap. The plug can be removed while the cap is still locked in the housing, releasing the tube. A release tool may be used to unlock the cap from the housing. An insertion indicator ring is used to establish the locking of the cap within the housing. A dust boot prevents contaminants from interfering with the operation of the connector.
Abstract:
A quick connector includes a retainer for detachably engaging male and female components of the quick connector together. The retainer includes an annular base with a recess mountable over a radially enlarged flange on the male component and circumferentially spaced legs extending axially from the base. An aperture in each leg engages a projection on the female component to interconnect the male and female components together. First and second seal members, each having the same inner diameter, but different outer diameters are pre-mounted on the male component and simultaneously engage different diameter portions of a stepped bore in the female component upon insertion of the male component into the female component. In another embodiment, the seal members are mounted in the bore in the female component prior to insertion of the male component, with the male component having a reduced diameter end portion simultaneously engagable with one seal member with engagement of an adjacent enlarged diameter portion of the male component with another seal member. One or more bushings are mounted on the male component surrounding the seal members. Alternately, the bushings are integrally formed as a unitary one-piece part of the male component.
Abstract:
An elongated fuel and vapor tube suitable for conveying fluids containing hydrocarbons having a first layer disposed radially innermost and having an inner surface capable of prolonged exposure to the hydrocarbon-containing fluid made up of a melt processible fluoroplastic terpolymer composed of a polyfluorinated alkylene, an .alpha.-fluoro-olefin and a fluorinated vinyl compound and a second layer bonded directly to the outwardly oriented face of the first layer. The second layer is composed of a resinous thermoplastic material which is preferably a polyamide such as Nylon 12, Nylon 11, Nylon 6 or Nylon 6.6.
