Abstract: The present invention relates to a rechargeable aqueous Zn∥IS flow battery system. The system includes a cathode side comprising an electrode material and a first storage tank providing a catholyte, wherein the catholyte comprises zinc iodide and a soluble starch, forming an electrolyte having aggregated colloidal nanoparticles; an anode side comprising the electrode material and a second storage tank providing an anolyte; and a separator positioned between the cathode and anode. The anolyte and the catholyte flow between the cathode and the anode by a peristaltic pump. The present invention provides a system to further exploit colloidal electrolyte chemistries for the LPPM-based flow battery systems towards power cost-effectiveness and high-temperature large-scale energy storage.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a phenazine derivative-based alkaline battery, which includes an anode formed by a phenazine derivative having 1 to 4 side group substituents, a cathode, a separator placed between the cathode and the anode and an electrolyte disposed in a space between the cathode and the anode. The present invention not only investigates the impact of hydroxyl substituents on electrochemical potential and reaction kinetics but also paves the way for the development of stable anodes for alkaline-based batteries. The phenazine derivative-based alkaline battery of the present invention exhibits a reversible capacity of at least 170 mAh g−1 at 0.2 A g−1, a power density of at least 20 KW kg−1 at 10 A g−1, a, and a stable cyclability over 9000 cycles.

Abstract: Hydration-responsive shape-memory keratin composite fibers are provided. These fibers have a keratin network structure formed by keratin α-helices bonded by disulfide bonds. Incorporated within the structure are cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs), which provide hydrogen bonds and stabilize the α-helix structure, introducing a hydration-responsive switch. Specifically, the CNCs are configured to arrange and connect the keratin α-helices, aligning their coil axis along the fiber axis.

Abstract: A method for solving multiple OPF equations of an AC electrical power system with plural topologies and admittances is provided. The method includes determining a continuous admittance space to embed the plural topologies, determining a plurality of voltage magnitudes and a plurality of voltage phase angles of the plurality of buses by a deep neural network, and reconstructing an active power generation and a reactive power generation using power flow equations according to the plurality of voltage magnitudes, the plurality of voltage phase angles, and the load inputs. The continuous admittance space is an admittance matrix of a plurality of line admittances each having a default admittance computed using a conductance and a susceptance of the plurality of branches. The deep neural network receives the load inputs and the plurality of line admittances as inputs.

Abstract: A dielectric resonator antenna, which includes a dielectric resonator and a substrate on which a planar feeding circuit is configured. The dielectric resonator is located on a first side of the substrate. The planar feeding circuit contains a first feeding part and a second feeding part. The first and second feeding parts are adapted to excite two orthogonal DRA modes in a same frequency band. Due to its polarization diversity, the antenna can be used to replace two commercial Wi-Fi antennas. It can simultaneously be used as a projection device for decoration and advertising.

Abstract: A method for compressing a 3D medical image includes the steps of receiving a 3D medical image, partitioning the 3D medical image into a plurality of first slices, encoding the plurality of the first slices by a lossy codec into first bitstreams, decoding the first bitstreams by the lossy codec to obtain a plurality of second slices, computing a plurality of residues by comparing the plurality of the first slices and the plurality of the second slices, encoding the plurality of the residues by a lossless codec to obtain a plurality of encoded residues, and outputting the first bitstreams and the plurality of the encoded residues as compressed image data. Each residue corresponds to one of the first slices and its corresponding second slice. Experimental results on prevailing 3D medical image datasets demonstrate that the proposed method achieves promising compression performance and outperforms state-of-the-art methods.

The method includes obtaining image data of a 3D medical image, performing a data conversion operation to convert the image data of the 3D medical image into video data of a sequence of frames each corresponding to a respective 2D image, and performing a video encoding operation to encode the video data of the sequence of frames to obtain encoded content data. The encoded content data can be used for reconstructing the 3D medical image.

Abstract: The present invention provides an absorption-desorption based Carnot battery designed to achieve a high-efficiency, large-density, and low-loss conversion battery system for power-heat-power purpose. Based on the rational operating strategies, the current Carnot battery system design demonstrates outstanding energy storage density and round-trip efficiency, while the self-discharging loss is minimal even after prolonged standby time. The battery system of the present invention also enables further designs with flexibility in adopting different operating modes for versatile functions to provide electricity, heating, and cooling.
