    Abstract: An encapsulated lost circulation material includes: a particulate having a core including a compressed shape-memory polymer foam, and a disintegrating agent, the disintegrating agent including at least one of a phase change material or a gas-producing material; and a shell encapsulating the core. A method of reducing lost circulation includes: introducing into a subsurface a wellbore fluid including the encapsulated lost circulation material; heating the disintegrating agent to cause the phase change material to expand, or to cause the gas-producing material to produce a gas, or a combination thereof to break the shell; and releasing the compressed shape-memory polymer foam from the encapsulated lost circulation material; expanding the released shape-memory polymer foam; and filling a void or fracture of the subsurface with the expanded compressed shape-memory polymer foam to reduce fluid loss.

    Abstract: A method for measuring the temperature of a submersible pumping system motor includes the steps of obtaining an analog motor temperature signal from a motor temperature sensor, converting the analog motor temperature signal to a digital motor temperature signal using an analog-to-digital converter (ADC), providing the digital motor temperature signal to a processor, determining the absolute value of the digital motor temperature signal with the processor to produce a corrected digital motor temperature signal, and reporting the corrected digital motor temperature signal. The method is designed to correct the measurements made by the motor temperature sensor in the event the motor temperature sensor is connected incorrectly.

    Abstract: In at least one embodiment, a valve removal (VR) system for an oilfield equipment includes a VR plug having a first surface and a second surface. The VR system includes a bushing to be removably associated with the first surface. The bushing is to extend, at least partly, beyond the second surface of the VR plug. The bushing is also to contact an inner surface of a valve of the oilfield equipment and to prevent the second surface from contacting the inner surface of the valve. The VR system includes a guiding rod to be associated with the VR plug to support guidance of the VR plug through the valve of the oilfield equipment. The guiding rod is also to be disassociated from the VR plug to support removal of the guiding rod from the valve with the VR plug remaining in the oilfield equipment.

    Abstract: Drilling mud is flowed through a valve assembly that is set at a particular open amount, measurements are taken of mud flowrate and a force exerted by the drilling mud onto a portion of the valve assembly, and density of the drilling mud is estimated based on historical data. The historical data is generated by directing multiple flows through the valve assembly, where the flows are at different flowrates, and at each flowrate different drilling muds having different densities are directed through the valve assembly. For each flow the valve assembly is adjusted to different open amounts, and a corresponding force exerted by the flow onto the valve assembly is measured. An example of the valve assembly is a mud pulser with a plug member that engages an orifice opening, a sensor in the pulser measures force exerted by the flow of mud.

    Abstract: Systems and methods for determining the orientation of the toolface of a rotating downhole tool using multiple sensors that measure different parameters related to the orientation of the toolface, where outputs of the different sensors are used by a Kalman filter which generates accurate predictions of the toolface orientation (state) at each of a series of time steps. The Kalman filter generates a state prediction based on a physical model and a previous state, and updates the prediction based on a received sensor output. Another sensor output is fed through a phase locked loop to generate a sine wave at the fundamental frequency of the sensor signal. The sine wave is used to synchronize another sensor signal that is provided to the Kalman filter for further adjustment of the state prediction.
