In one general aspect, a rheometer for measuring properties of a sample is disclosed. It can include a first part having a drive portion operatively connected to an actuator and having a contact surface for contacting the sample. The rheometer also includes a second part that has another contact surface for contacting the sample. A first heater is positioned to heat the first part, a second heater is positioned to heat the second part, and a heat pump can heat and cool both the first and second parts.

A multi-point lock for a closure includes two or more of a latch (19,20), lift bolt (13) and at least one drive element (16,17) for operating a shoot bolt or remote deadbolt. A drive cam (15), a drive gear (14) and a toothed member (42) coupled to at least one of said lift bolt (13) and at least one said drive element (16,17), said toothed member (42) being in meshed engagement with the drive gear (14), said drive cam (15) being drivingly coupled with the drive gear (14) via a lost motion coupling (38,40). Rotation of the drive cam (15) in one direction can thus actuate the latch (19,20) and in the opposite direction actuate the drive gear (14) to cause movement of the lift bolt (13) and drive element (16,17).

Nitrosylhemoglobin can be produced by introducing gaseous NO into an aqueous solution of hemoglobin. It has been demonstrated that nitrosylhemoglobin in aqueous solution can be converted to SNO-hemoglobin upon introduction of oxygen to the solution, as is postulated to occur in the lungs. Nitrosylhemoglobin can be used in methods to produce the physiological effects of NO, for example, to reduce vasoconstriction and to inhibit platelet aggregation.

The invention relates to an adapter which comprises a base having a container attachment portion on a first side and a needle hub attachment portion on a second side opposite the first side. The adapter includes a puncturing member extending along a first axis for entering a container inserted into the container attachment portion. The adapter includes a channel extending substantially along the first axis from the needle hub attachment portion, through the base and along the puncturing member to an axial outlet at, or adjacent, a tip of the puncturing member. The adapter is configured so that a needle comprising a shaft extending from a hub can be inserted into the adapter such that the hub engages the hub attachment portion and the shaft extends through the base and within the puncturing member.

Treatment of pulmonary disorders associated with hypoxemia and/or smooth muscle constriction and/or inflammation comprises administering into the lungs as a gas a compound with an NO group which does not form NO2/NOx in the presence of oxygen or reactive oxygen species at body temperature. Treatment of cardiac and blood disorders, e.g., angina, myocardial infarction, heart failure, hypertension, sickle cell disease and clotting disorders, comprises administering into the lungs as a gas, a compound which reacts with cysteine in hemoglobin and/or dissolves in blood and has an NO group which is bound in said compound so that it does not form NO2/NOx in the presence of oxygen or reactive oxygen species at body temperature. Exemplary of the compound administered in each case is ethyl nitrite. Treatment of patient in need of improved oxygenation, blood flow of and/or thinning of blood comprises providing in the patient a therapeutic amount of red blood cells loaded with nitrosylated hemoglobin. A method is directed to screening drugs that increase level of nitrosoglutathione in airway lining fluid.
