Abstract: The disclosure relates to a multi-layer coating system on a polycarbonate substrate, comprising: a primer layer applied directly to the substrate, wherein the primer layer is obtained from a primer coating composition, which comprises at least one polyaspartic acid ester and at least one polyisocyanate crosslinker, which primer coating composition does not comprise epoxy-functional alkoxysilanes and is free from compounds with reactive OH groups, and at least one organic topcoat layer overlying the primer layer, which organic topcoat layer is obtained from a coating composition different from the primer composition.

Abstract: A one-component moisture-curing adhesive composition is provided, comprising from 80 to 100 wt % of an isocyanate-functional prepolymer obtainable by reacting (a) a polyisocyanates mixture having an average nominal isocyanate functionality in the range of from above 2.00 to below 2.05, and (b) a polyol mixture, wherein the equivalent ratio between isocyanate groups in (a) and hydroxyl groups in (b) is in the range of from 3.5 to 7.0, wherein the content of free isocyanate groups in the adhesive composition is in the range of from 14 to 17 wt %, and wherein polyisocyanates mixture (a) comprises (a1) a diisocyanate comprising methyl diphenyl diisocyanate in excess of (a2) a uretonimine-modified methyl diphenyl diisocyanate comprising at least 3 isocyanate functional groups. A method of bonding a first piece of material to a second piece of material using such adhesive composition, and an object made from the method, are also provided.

Abstract: A fluorinated, alkoxysilyl-functional polymer is provided, obtainable by a method comprising the steps of: a) reacting an OH-functional (per)fluoropolyether (PFPE) with a polyisocyanate A under urethane formation reaction conditions, to obtain an isocyanate-functional intermediate B, b) reacting intermediate B with a secondary, alkoxysilyl-functional monoamine C, to obtain the alkoxysilyl-functional polymer. The polymer can be used as an additive in preparation of a coating with easy-clean, anti-stain and anti-scratch properties, which can advantageously be used for coating various substrates in consumer electronics or automotive applications such as glass, metal, metal alloy, anodized substrates, plastics, composite etc.

Abstract: The invention relates to the synthesis of a carboxyl-functional, unsaturated polyurethane containing a perfluoropolyether block, which can be used as an easy clean additive in preparation of a waterborne, UV curable coating composition. The polyurethane can be prepared by a method comprising the following steps: a) subjecting a hydroxy-terminated perfluoropolyether A to a reaction with a molar excess of polyisocyanate B to obtain an isocyanate-functional urethane C, b) adding a carboxyl-functional polyol D to the reaction mixture, c) adding OH— functional (meth)acrylate monomer E to the reaction mixture, wherein steps (b) and (c) can be performed in any order, and d) neutralizing the reaction product with a neutralizer F. The resulting coating has easy clean and anti-stain properties.

Abstract: System and method for estimating aquatic environment-originating biofilm biomass on a coating of an object. The method includes obtaining one or more digital images of a fouled portion of the coating on the object and determining from each of the one or more images a respective reflectance value for the portion of the coating. The method includes determining on the basis of the one or more reflectance values a value of a spectral index representative of biomass and calculating a biomass pigment surface area density on the basis of the spectral index, SI, and one or more calibration values determined for a reference coating. The method includes compensating the calculated biomass pigment surface area density for the reflectance of the coating of the object by applying a compensation associated with the difference of the reflectance of the coating of the object relative to the reference coating.

Abstract: The invention relates to an alkoxysilane functional polyurethane-urea that can be used to prepare an adhesive or coating composition. The polyurethane-urea has a low viscosity and can be used in solvent- and water-free adhesives or coatings. The adhesive or coating can be applied to various substrates such as wood, wood-containing composite, metal, plastics, paper, stone, glass or concrete.
