An apparatus and method for inoculating a biological substrate with cells include provision for rotating a container in which the substrate and a cell suspension are received about first and second axes of rotation. The apparatus comprises said container, first drive means for rotatably supporting the container about the first axis, and second drive means for rotatably supporting the first drive means about the second axis. The first and second axes of rotation do not lie in the same plane and extend in different directions so that the container revolves around the second axis while the container is rotating about the first axis. The inoculation method utilizes this apparatus.

A method for preparing a hydroxyapatite composite is disclosed. This method comprises alternately soaking a matrix which has been made hydrophilic at least on its surface, in a calcium ion aqueous solution containing calcium ions and substantially free of phosphate ions and in a phosphate ion aqueous solution containing phosphate ions and substantially free of calcium ions to securely form hydroxyapatite at least on the surface of the matrix. Also disclosed is a biocompatible material composed of the hydroxyapatite composite obtained by the method.

The present invention is directed to particulate carriers useful as drug carriers in a drug delivery system (DDS) and to pharmaceutical compositions making use of such carriers. The invention is characterized by the use, as the particulate carrier, of: graft copolymer (A) whose graft chain is poly N-alkylacrylamide chain, poly N-alkylmethacrylamide chain, etc.; and a composition containing a combination of the graft copolymer (A) and at least one graft copolymers selected from the group consisting of graft copolymers (B-1) having polyacrylic acid or polymethacrylic acid as the graft chain and graft copolymers (B-2) having a polyvinyl amine compound as the graft chain.
