A recessed lighting fixture comprises a base plate mountable in an opening in a room ceiling or wall, the base plate defining spaced apart front and back surfaces wherein the front surface is substantially flat and aligned with the surface of the ceiling or wall when mounted thereon, capable of being plastered and painted to match the ceiling or wall into which it is installed, the plate having an opening to allow light to pass through. A two-part, expandable housing substantially surrounds the base plate, the housing consisting of an upper and lower assembly, with the base plate secured to the lower portion and the lower portion adjustably mounted to the upper portion of the housing. A curved dome is adjustably mounted adjacent the back surface of the base plate, contained within the housing and centered on the light opening.
Abstract:
A mounting platform for a lighting fixture comprising a substantially flat plate and an integral cutting guide. The integral cutting guide includes an aperture formed through the substantially flat plate and a flange formed around a perimeter of the aperture. The flange and the substantially flat plate preferably intersect in a curve and the flange forms an angle of less than (90) degrees with respect to the bottom surface. The mounting platform also includes elongated slots for securing the mounting platform to a ceiling support member. The elongated slots are preferably of a sufficient length to allow the mounting platform to be secured to the ceiling support member to allow placement of the integral cutting guide between the ceiling support member and a second ceiling support member wherein the span between the ceiling support member and the second ceiling support member is in the range of (16 to 24) inches.

A light assembly is provided for installation in one of an insulation capable (IC) environment and a non-insulation capable (non-IC) environment. The light assembly comprises a light fixture and a label. The light fixture includes a housing having an open end and a wall visible through the open end, the wall defining an aperture having a size sufficient for determining whether insulation is within a predetermined distance of the light fixture. The label includes an indicia signaling a user to use the aperture to make a determination whether insulation is within the predetermined distance of the light fixture and to make a lamp selection based on the determination.

A lighting assembly that includes a light fixture adapted to be disposed in relation to an opening defined in a surface of a structure such that a lamp may be installed in the light fixture through the opening, a trim having an outer surfaces, and an intumescent layer on the outer surface of the trim. The trim is adapted to engage the light fixture so that the outer surface of the trim on which the intumescent layer is disposed is positioned in proximity to the opening in the structure. The intumescent layer is adapted to expand to form a fire resistant seal between the trim and the structure when the intumescent layer reaches a predetermined temperature.

A light fixture for lighting a wall, including a supporting base and at least one light emitting diode (LED) on the base emitting light in a cone having a central axis. A first reflector is curved between a first lip secured to the base adjacent the LED and a second lip spaced from the base, with the central axis of the cone intersecting the first reflector between the first and second lips. A second reflector defines a reflecting enclosure for and includes first and second generally flat surfaces on opposite sides of the LED and substantially symmetrical about a plane which includes the light cone central axis, and a third generally flat surface intersecting both of the first and second surfaces, whereby the first reflector is oriented to reflect light from both the LED and the second reflector in a beam having a selected shape.

A mounting platform for a lighting fixture comprising a substantially flat plate and an integral cutting guide. The integral cutting guide includes an aperture formed through the substantially flat plate and a flange formed around a perimeter of the aperture. The flange and the substantially flat plate intersect in a curve. The flange can form an angle of less than 90 degrees with respect to the bottom surface. The mounting platform can also include elongated slots for securing the mounting platform to a ceiling support member. The elongated slots are of a sufficient length to allow the mounting platform to be secured to the ceiling support member to allow placement of the integral cutting guide between a first ceiling support member and a second ceiling support member. The span between the first and second ceiling support members can be in the range of approximately 16 to 24 inches.

A lighting assembly includes a light fixture adapted to be disposed in relation to an opening defined in a surface of a structure such that a lamp may be installed in the light fixture through the opening of the structure. A thermal insulation barrier surrounds the light fixture, is positioned in close proximity of the opening of the structure and constructed so as to entrap heat from the opening of the structure. A trim has an outer surface, configured to substantially enclose the opening, consists of at least one fireproof material, and is adapted to engage the light fixture so that the outer surface is disposed in proximity to the opening of the structure and forms a continuous surface with the structure.

An apparatus is provided for securing a trim frame to a housing member in a recessed lighting fixture. The apparatus includes a spring associated with the trim frame having a top edge, a left edge, a right edge, and a bottom edge, a left portion, a right portion, and a center portion between the left portion and the right portion. The left portion is connected to the center portion along a first bend, and the right portion is connected to the center portion along a second bend. The left portion includes a first lead-in portion formed by a third bend and a first retention portion formed by a fourth bend, and the right portion includes a second lead-in portion formed by a fifth bend and a second retention portion formed by a sixth bend.
