Abstract: A halftone raster image suitable for rendering a continuous-tone image includes a plurality of spiral dots. The spiral dots include image pixels arranged as a first arc or as a plurality of arcs which together represent a first spiral, and non-image pixels arranged as a second arc or as a plurality of arcs which together represent a second spiral. The spiral dots enable a controlled spreading of the ink within the dot, resulting in a higher image quality, ink saving, and faster drying.

Abstract: A lithographic printing plate precursor is disclosed which comprises a support, a photopolymerizable image recording layer and an overcoat which comprises a low-molecular radical inhibitor. After image-wise exposure, the plate is heated whereby the radical inhibitor diffuses from the overcoat to the image recording layer, resulting in an increase of the daylight stability of the exposed and heated precursor. Abstract: A method for setting up a lithographic printing press is provided which reduces the make-ready time of on-press developable printing plates so that less copies are wasted. The method uses an ‘ink boost’ at the startup of the press by presetting the inking system to a configuration whereby the amount of ink supplied to the plate is different from the amount prescribed by standard printing conditions. The ink boost can be positive or negative and can be made dependent on the difference in the image coverage between plates used in successive print jobs or on different paper types used in successive print jobs.
