摘要: An apparatus for warming and humidifying respiratory gases during artificial respiration includes two passive heat and moisture exchangers and an active warming and humidifying element disposed between them in a housing. The first passive heat and moisture exchanger serves to preheat and prehumidify cold and dry gases to be inhaled. In a further, downstream, active heat and moisture exchanger and the second heat and moisture exchanger, gases are additionally heated and humidified, thus ensuring optimum physiological conditioning of the respiratory gases to a temperature of 36.degree.-37.degree. C. and 100% relative humidity. In an exhalation phase, 70 to 80% of humidity and heat are recovered from the optimally conditioned humid and warmed respiratory gas with the aid of the two integral passive heat and moisture exchangers.

摘要: A drain device for the continuous removal of condensate from an operational patient breathing circuit comprises a body having a first opening adapted for connection to a patient breathing apparatus. A second opening in the body is adapted for connection to a patient breathing device. There is a passageway in the body which provides fluid communication between these openings, with a third opening through the body communicating with the passageway. A liquid-pervious, gas-impervious material covers the third opening so that condensate can continuously drain through the third opening while the breathing circuit is in operation.

摘要: An improved breathing method and apparatus for enabling a user, while at low altitude, e.g. sea level, to acclimate himself to high altitude conditions. The apparatus includes an inspiratory tube and an expiratory tube and means for selectively mixing a certain portion of oxygen-reduced expired air with ambient air to supply air for inspiration. The first ends of the inspiratory and expiratory tubes are coupled to a mouth and/or nose breathing mask. The remote end of the expiratory tube is coupled through a proportioning means to the environment and to a reservoir or air storage chamber. The remote end of the inspiratory tube is also coupled to the proportioning means so as to pull ambient air from the environment, as well as oxygen-reduced air from the reservoir. By varying the proportioning means, the ratio of ambient air to expired air, and thus the oxygen concentration of the inspired air, is varied so as to enable the user to select the particular elevated altitude to be simulated. Means are included for adjusting the range over which said proportioning means can be varied. Means are also included for adjusting the proportion of expired air which is caused to flow through CO.sub. 2 absorber material prior to being inspired.

摘要: A moisture management system for a medical device. A water trap has an inlet, outlet, first reservoir, and drain, the inlet receiving gas from a supply connection and the outlet returning the gas to a patient connection. The water trap removes moisture from the gas flowing from the inlet to the outlet, where the moisture removed is held in the first reservoir. The system further includes an evaporation chamber having an inlet, an exhaust, and a second reservoir. The inlet is fluidly coupled to the drain of the water trap to receive the moisture from the first reservoir. The moisture is subsequently held in the second reservoir. The evaporation chamber is configured such that the moisture evaporates from the second reservoir and exits as vapor via the exhaust. An evaporator increases a rate at which the moisture in the second reservoir evaporates via the exhaust.
