Abstract: The invention relates to methods and devices for enabling relocation of Access and Mobility Management Functions (AMFs). In an aspect of the invention a method performed by a Non-3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) Interworking Function (14, N3IWF) enabling a wireless communication device (10) to attach to a core network (100) over non-3GPP access, to facilitate re-location of the wireless communication device (10) from an Access and Mobility Management Function (13, AMF) currently serving the wireless communication device (10) over non-3GPP access to the core network (100), to a target AMF (21) which is to serve the wireless communication device (10) over 3GPP access to the core network (100). The method comprises receiving (S119a), from the target AMF (21), a request to redirect any further signalling of the wireless communication device (10) from the currently serving AMF (13) to the target AMF (21); and redirecting any signalling of the wireless communication device (10) to the target AMF (21).

Abstract: Embodiments of a method performed by a radio access node for network scheduled User Equipment (UE) transition to connected mode and corresponding embodiments of a radio access node are disclosed. In some embodiments, a method performed by a radio access node comprises receiving: (a) a notification request from an Access and Mobility Management Function (AMF) to retrieve reachability information for a UE or (b) downlink data to be communicated to the UE. The method further comprises, upon receiving either (a) or (b), determining that the UE is in an inactive state and is currently unreachable. The method further comprises sending information to the AMF that notifies the AMF that the UE is currently unreachable. The information comprises information that indicates that RAN paging of the UE is scheduled or scheduling assistance information. Embodiments of method performed by an AMF and corresponding embodiments of an AMF are also disclosed.

Abstract: A method for a target mobility management entity and a target mobility management entity for executing the method in a core network to communicate network function (NF) utilization information with a source mobility management entity during a change of mobility management entity are disclosed. The method comprises: receiving at least one old NF identifier (ID) from the source mobility management entity that corresponds to an old NF entity serving a user equipment (UE); determining to either use the at least one old NF ID or to use at least one new NF ID that corresponds to a new NF entity of a same NF type as the old NF entity; and communicating, to the source mobility management entity, information that indicates to the source mobility management entity whether the target mobility management entity uses the at least one old NF ID or uses the at least one new NF ID.

Abstract: A UE is configured such that, when in MICO mode, the UE does not transmit certain messages (e.g., Service Request, periodic registration update message) whenever there is a risk that the certain message will not be routed to the UE's serving AMF. In some embodiments, the network (e.g., serving AMF) indicates to the UE in MICO mode an area (parts of, or the entire PLMN) that is covered by the serving AMF, the Within Serving AMF (WSA) area. While the UE is within the indicated WSA area, the UE in MICO mode may continue to use periodic registration area update or Service Requests (instead of the more extensive mobility registration update procedure) as there is no risk of addressing a new AMF in that area.

Abstract: Exemplary embodiments include methods performed by a cellular Internet of Things, CIoT, user equipment, UE, for transmission of data in a communication network comprising a radio access network, RAN, and a core network, CN. Embodiments include sending, to an Access and Mobility Management Function, AMF, a request to establish a small-data user-plane, SDUP, data session. Embodiments can also include receiving a response indicating that the requested SDUP data session is established. The response can include an identifier associated with a user-plane function, UPF, within the CN, that supports the established SDUP data session. The response can also include an SDUP security configuration for communication between the UE and the CN during the established SDUP data session. Embodiments can also include subsequently communicating user data, associated with the established SDUP data session, with the UPF via a serving node in the RAN. Other embodiments include complementary methods performed by AMFs and serving nodes, as well as UEs and network nodes configured to perform the exemplary methods.
