One embodiment of the present invention provides a method for transmitting a broadcast signal, comprising the steps of: encoding video data to generate a video stream; generating a broadcast signal including the generated video stream and a subtitle stream; and transmitting the generated broadcast signal. According to the embodiment of the present invention, a transmission stream which provides a digital broadcast subtitling service using an XML subtitle can be transmitted.
